To be clear, GT5 was not released this year, it was simply the prologue which amounted to a pay demo. So that's a bit of a misnomer.

Burnout by a mile.
Open world, drop in/drop out online at the push of a button, huge amounts of free DLC, great driving engine... On top of that, you're rewarded for crashing.

I'm dissapointed in Mario Kart Wii but my wii is dissapointing but the clear winner in my eyes is burnout no question

2008 was a good year for racing games.
While ultimately my vote goes to Mario Kart Wii based on the sheer hours I've put in online (and my Digital Press store champion title) it's no secret that Burnout re-invented itself out of becoming stagnant in a genre that it practically created, GRID was some techinally brilliant stuff, and Wipeout HD and Motorstorm Pacific Rift gave PS3 owners some much needed excellent exclusive racers.
There was something great on every system and it's really hard making the call in this category.
