View Full Version : Point Blank 3 PS1 - Not for sale in CA?

I picked up one of the big boxed PS1 Point Blank 3 + Guncon sets over the weekend and was surprised to see a blurb on the front of the box that said it is not for sale in California? What was the deal with this? I assume it's due to the inclusion of the Guncon, but if so that's among the stupidest things I've ever heard.

Anybody have any insight?

Is the Guncon brightly colored/have an orange tip?

It's a federal law that gun replicas have one of those two, but then it's usually good.

Who knows, we're talking about the state that banned ferrets and glow-in-the-dark fish. LOL

And gay marriage. I'm just saying.

well one thing about it, it should be worth more in " California " cause no-one should have it....

California passed a law requiring videogame light guns to be brightly colored. The grey Guncon was therefore banned. I'm not sure if they made a California variant or if they just didn't sell the Point Blank 3 + gun pack in California, but I know they made an orange Guncon.

Yea, it is a grey Guncon. I don't think I've seen any color other than grey for the PS1, but do have the orange and black ones for the PS2.

Just struck me as odd. Would this constitute an import game if you bought it from another state and brought it into Ca? ;)

I bought some Devcon 5 epoxy that had this warning:

Warning: Contains epoxy resin and polymercaptan amines. This
product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause
cancer. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid breathing vapors.
Use with adequate ventilation. Wear suitablle protective clothing.

Maybe they used this epoxy in the production of the Guncon.

They may have stopped selling the bundled version with the Guncon in California at some point, but I still have mine sealed with the Fry's price tag on the front, so I know for sure they were sold in the San Diego/Los Angeles metro area at least for a while out here.

I like the fact that only California knows it causes cancer. Like it is some big secret they are hiding from the rest of the country.

I've never known Fry's to worry too much about regional restricted items. Have to love them!

Yep. Although in their defense, my outer box doesn't have that "do not sell in California" sticker on it, so I think I am correct that the legislation took effect and then this was done retroactively.

I'm very sure the "California Version" was packed with a bright orange Guncon.

and they wonder why their state is going broke... could it be because they're always enacting silly special laws that none of the other states bother with?

Them's fighting words. Especially since you're from Texas. :p

They were sold in the Bay Area as well. As were Time Crisis Project Titans and all the others. I passed them by when they were still in the stores. At the time if memory serves there was a recent push to get rid of the gun games (again) and that gun game was facing the wrath of the the state law at the time. I think it was eventually overturned, but it was after the game had run its course.

I'll just add that of course the PAL version of the game carries no such warning.

Oh you crazy Americans and your regional laws.

Wouldn't it be funny if these things are packaged in a different state?

Like a compound off the freeway in the Nevada desert?

Or Canada?

Hmmm, this particular pack has a grey with the red tipped Guncon. I've never run across a Guncon 1 in any color other than grey. It's possible this isn't the proper gun for the pack, but based on the condition (like new), I'm thinking it is.

Why, do you have one? Do you have a photo of it? The only Guncons I have ever seen for the PS1 here in California are the grey with red tip version. It wasn't until the PS2/PS3 days that we got a version of the Guncon that was all orange.

I'm pretty sure I still have the GunCon, but I no longer posses the packaging for it or Point Blank 3. If I can remember, I'll try to get a pic of it for you.

I am going to buy an orange GunCon, spraypaint it black, go to California, and wave it around.

Wish me luck.
