Ps2 woes

My system is acting really weird (making funny noises) etc. I was wondering if someone can tell if this is one of the earlier models:

I haven't even had my system for a year, and it's already acting up.
The games that aren't working (and make a noise while spinning) are:

Mad Maestro (PS2) - It used to work, now it's making the noises.
Incredible Crisis (PSX) - It won't load.

I dunno but I am on my third PS2. >) Those things are made of paper clips and tin foil. >:(

Incredible Crisis hasn't worked on my PS2 since I got it. I'd wager that that game is PS2 incompatible (there are a few of those, like TOmba! and Final Fantasy Anthology). My PS2 plays Mad Maestro just fine, by the way.

Send it too sony..for a Free repair..
call them..at 1-800-345-SONY

They will send you something like this..through an email..
Just verify your address "twice"
"disc read error" would be the problem...
And the location you send it to may differ.
I sent them two launch versions already..and they updated the drivers and changed a bunch of internal devices..
They even give you a new warranty ..and I didn't have one..or it had ran out a long time ago.
They even give you a work order # to check on it's progress..and shipping return.

If that disc is blue backed, it's a CDrom. CDroms spin faster than DVD roms. Sounds like slipping to me, but that's a wild ass guess. I've seen it happen to other machines I've fixed.

An internal cleaning could fix it if that's the problem. Follow videogamerdarryl's advice first. Cleaning it inside would require disassembly, and they are very tricky inside.

I better get out of here for jjessop or SCEA comes back.....

I have FFA, and it works fine on my PS2, except the menu can glitch on FF5.

Anyways, I'll probably just send it in to Sony.

If you can't get DVD-ROMs to read, then you have a problem. Luckily Mad Maestro is a CD-ROM.

It was making the dreaded noises on my PS2, along with Magix Music Maker and Virtua Fighter 4 (2 more CD-ROMs) here's the simple solution:

Put a strip of scotch tape on each of the 4 compass points (north, south, east, west) on the top of the disc. Works fine.

Got my PS2, 2 months after launch and have not had a single problem ever.

Even dropped it once, it fucked up the disc that was in there, but the PS2 is still working great.

Just last night I started watching The Ring (PS2 is my only DVD player), and my damn rca cord was cutting out. I plugged in my RF unit and it worked fine, but at obviously less quality. I was really annoyed, now I need to go get a new RCA cord... but it never did that as I played through FF5 (worked fine in my PS2, but I got the save glitch) and I just beat it like 2 weeks ago, if even that long ago. Argh.

Definitely get a new cord, and cross your fingers it's not the plug.

Tomba and Tomba2 work fine on my PS2. I have one of the first batches. That might have something to do with it.
