View Full Version : Portable Genesis\Mega Drive console (plays original sega carts) - INTEREST CHECK.

There is a company in Russia that produces portable Mega Drive/Genesis consoles.
As most of you know there's a lot of chinese shit with built in games and small crappy carts as well.
But this one is different. Cause it plays original sega carts.
All i can say from testing is that it is pretty good. Visually a psp rip-off.
It has good sound, bright screen, tv output and built-in accum. Also it looks like it's fast.
A good Nomad replacement.

How much are we talking here? Interest, but tentative.

Ugh... why is it that everyone rips off the PSP design, yet refuses to put a proper D-pad on it?

Also, what's going on with the buttons? Looks like there's four face buttons as well as what I would assume are mode and start... are there two shoulder buttons as well?

Are you saying you are going to import these if there is enough interest? Looks cool, but how much are we talking here. Also, the screen looks "widescreen", is it stretched, or chopped on the top and bottom?

I noticed that too, but then I thought stretched aspect is a lot better than blurry as hell. LOL It would be nice to play fast action stuff and be able to see little things that can kill you.

I'm guessing it's 6-button compatible.

How much would these cost? Cheaper than a Nomad? The Nomad screen isn't all that bad, it's better than a Game Gear screen.

True! Not having the 6 button arcade layout would render some games next to impossible. Ever tried playing Ranger X with a controller that has 4 face buttons and 2 shoulders? You have to use the left "face" button to make him turn left and then the right "shoulder" button to make him turn right. It's brutally difficult, or at least for me it was.

Although as everyone is saying, really, it all comes down to price. I am certainly interested however.

What is this thing actually called?

Acording to the pic, it seems that the screen is stretched and with border lines because this clone must be set and'running in PAL/50Htz or SECAM mode....

Dark_sol, Is it switchless by any chance?

I think it looks horrible.
The designers didn't do anything right with that one.

I would like one please.

Due to the Tec Toy Genesis/Megadrive portables already out - searching for this one on the web is proving difficult.

So. Where can I get me one, what is the name of the system and/or manufacturer, and what's the going price?

How's the battery life on this thing? I'm interested, depending on cost of course.

Can it play NTSC games without the clipping on the top/bottom?

Somehow we knew you'd show up eventually.

If I was on top of my girlfriend as much as your on top of "clone systems", I'd have 2 or 3 kids by now LOL

Well, as long as he replies soon. If stereotyping has taught us anything, it's that we won't be able to stay on this topic long.

Console is called DVtech Discovery, it is produced by some rather obscure russian company.
I plan to buy myself a copy of it and i thought maybe if there's some interest i can import some.
The price would over 100$ i guess. More like 150$.

The only disadvantage that i could think of is that it has only 4 buttons instead of 6. And no shift buttons (like on psp). Donnow why they made it, but that's it.
You can see the only video here.

From what i've read it has nice sound, nice screen, tv output (tv cable is in bundle) and built-in LI-Ion accum which allows playtime up to SEVEN hours.

With the price ($100-150) that Dark Sol just quoted us, I won't have one left if I buy this thing :o

Yeah, even on the low end, that's a bit much, though I appreciate that info - I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for this one in the future.

And if you or somebody else does get it, I'll be looking forward to the review. But I will definitely be sitting this particular machine out, considering it is far more expensive than the "real thing" and the "real thing" at least has the proper buttons, more durable construction (presumably) and can be used with Sega hardware such as the AC adapter, etc.

As for me - my all time fav console is Nomad. But it's not very portable, huge and heavy and works 2 hours at most. That's the main reason why it sits in it's box. This thing even though it's crappy - several times lighter and works like 4x times longer. The main reason why i became interested. I'll keep you informed on this thing.

So does it have an ac adapter/power supply and what type of batteries does it use (& how many)?

Edit: Well you sort of answered above, I see.......(built-in LI-Ion accum)

Dark_Sol

Yes, built in accum and charges from 220v.

Is the price from all the shipping both ways? :bawling: .. as I see it for sale on websites for 1,590.00руб(Russian rubles for those who don't know(100kopeks=1ruble)).

That is about $50 US dollars

Dark_Sol

It's not easy to get it, and the price is higher then those listed. It's Russia :)
