Hey everyone. I wasn't sure where to post this but this seems OK.
Has anyone played Mother 3 yet? I had been waiting for the english translation of it and was about to play it soon when I stumbled onto this site that is making a Mother 3 Handbook. It appears that it's fan driven and made because of their dedication to the game. Here's the handbook page: http://handbook.fangamer.com/
It looks pretty cool but I still haven't played Mother 3 yet and I would like to get some opinions on it from you guys. I really liked Earthbound so I assume I would like this as well. How are you guys liking it?

Yeah, the same people that did the English translation put together that handbook. I played Mother 3 when the patch was released and although it was good, I didn't enjoy it as much as Mother 1 + 2.

Is there an english version of Mother 1? That's the Earthbound 0, right?

There is a patched ROM available and is normally known as Earthbound Zero.
Mother 3 is the best game in the series, IMO. It has the best story out of all the games, and the music-based combat system is innovative and fun. If you enjoyed Earthbound, you'll love Mother 3.

Mother 3 is OK, but it does not hold my attention as much as Earthbound did. Mother 3's story and world is far more traditional fare for RPGs than Earthbound, but the music in Mother 3 is absolutely awesome.

I liked Mother 3 as it took the series in a different direction; that is it starts out as a tragedy. That and there is some actual character development this time around. It's still an EB game through and through, still has that quirky humor.
Now about the Mother 3 Handbook, the first shipment has been delayed until the first half of March :P I hope you enjoy Mother 3 as much as I do.

It's not patched... well it's not fan translated anyway. It's the US (not) released prototype.

Great! Thanks for the feedback on the game. I'm going to load it up and try it now. Sounds like I'll really like it especially since I'm into this type of music.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread since I just received my handbook. This thing is one of the best fan based tributes I have ever seen or owned. Absolutely fantastic! And, I am so glad that I waited to play the translation until it arrived. I'm too lazy for photos but here's a link to others that also received their handbooks:

I got my handbook on my birthday. Best Present Ever! I need to finish my second M3 playthrough.

Hey everyone. I am bumping up this thread from 2009 to inform Mother fans that the Mother 3 Handbook has gone into reprint. This time around, there is a hardcover edition and added content. Thought some might want to know about it; I just found out. Here are some pics: http://sunflowersandillusions.tumblr.com/post/13944513245/unknownstage-mother-3-handbook-hardcover
EDIT: Here are links to the handbook page:

Seems strange they would release the hardcover edition after the first print and not initially. I got the first print and thought it was good at $20. Paying $9 more for a second copy albeit hardcover and with slightly more content is a tough sell I think. I'm sure there's still plenty of interest but I don't know how useful it is a few years removed from an already capable guide.

i bought a paperback reprint earlier this month, which shipped today. FYI, the paperback version has the added content as well.

I'm still shocked they never got any sort of cease and desist from Nintendo over these things. Not that I wanted them to get one, just surprised they didn't.

Tons of companies publish unofficial guides, this is a guide like that.

I have a hardcover on the way, finally. I really wish I could afford to get the Mother 3 Deluxe Box. Maybe soon.
Also, it took a lot of practice but I finally got the combos down for several beats. I had to switch from the VisualBoyAdvance to VisualBoyAdvance-M emulator for the timing to be more accurate. All is good now :)

I somehow missed this the first go around.
I think I will have to pick one up to go with my Mother 3 GBA.
I agree though, this game while great was a little more traditional of an RPG, and therefore seemed to be lacking a certain something that Earthbound had. I still loved it, but Earthbound I think will never be equaled as an RPG. Sorry to all you Earthbound haters.

I didn't know about the handbook. I should buy this. I been meaning to play mother 3 again but the Gba emulator for the PSP doesnt want to work on my GO for some reason.

Received my handbook on Monday. God dang, it is an impressive thing. Also, I'd have to disagree with all you who think Mother 3 is somehow less than Earthbound. Earthbound was great fun and certainly quirky, funny, and at times, touching, but Mother 3 resonated with me on a level I've never experienced in a game before. I can't go into detail without spoiling the game, but suffice to say, Earthbound isn't the sole reason so many fans put so much effort into translating the game and putting out the book. Mother 3 is incredible in its own right, and if I had to pick a world where only one of the games existed, it would be Mother 3, all the way.

Don't get what I was saying wrong -- I *do* think that Mother 3 is a worthy title all it's own, I just think that the storyline was a little more traditional than what I got from Earthbound. I would play it again in a heartbeat -- and may just do that when I finally suck it up and buy the guide, which I should do sooner than later...
