Okay, I finally got Beatmania (import) for PSX, and I'm looking at Guitar Freaks, but before I go any further, I want to know once and for all, what are the best controllers for these games?

For Beatmania, the only one I haven't seen on eBay is the one at RedOctane for 49.95. Is this controller any good?

RedOctane also has a guitar freaks controller for 29.95, but I've heard that the konami controller is the only good one out there. Can anyone confirm this?

I haven't starteded looking at Drummania controllers, but That's probably one of the last games I'll be picking up, so no concerns there, yet.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Don't pay $50 for the Redoctane controller. I got mine for $30 and it's alright...especially if you've never played with a real controller (otherwise you'll never get used to the turntable)

For GF I use the "Panther C.R.G." and it's great. The Redoctane one has a crummy pick IIRC.

Yeah, the turntable on the Rave Discman is about the purest case of the term "wonky." It seems to have a mind of its own sometime.

But the Topway Drummania controller they sell for $50 is top notch, but it seems like you have to hit just slightly earlier than at the arcade. Oh, and it smells like burning tires. ;-) It works fine, though.

For Guitar Freaks, I don't even use a guitar controller. I have small hands, so the Dual Shock works fine. Control setting C is almost exactly like using an arcade controller, but at 5% the size. You hold it backwards and use three fingers on the face buttons for the keys. The left analog stick (now on the right) is used as the pick. The L1 and L2 buttons are mapped to wailing bonus, so you can just pull the controller up and into your chest to register that. If you get GF, try it at least a couple times like this, because you might not even need a controller.

Autobot, we're talking about IIDX controllers, not Beatmania controllers.

IMHO, Fluke, the Rave diskman sucks ass. Go for the $100 dollar konami one, its well worth it.

Yeah, the fatal flaw of the Rave Discman is the optical encoder in the turntable. The thing goes crazy when you turn it. The buttons really aren't bad, though.

Well I picked up the same conroller Autobot did, so all I'm left to find are maracas (which as I understand it are pretty universally the same), and a GF controller. any reccomendations other than the konami one?

Honestly, you should at least give it a spin with the Dual Shock on control setting C. I ended up not buying or building a guitar controller since that worked just fine with my hand size. Just give it a try and you might end up saving a few bucks.

As far as Guitars go, I think I've heard the Panthers are okay.

Well, actually, I'm just used to playing IIDX at DDR Tournies, so, I play on the official konami controller, some kid brought his rave diskman, and we took turns beating him over the head with it, I belive its called... Freestyling.
