I was looking for some advice on the wii's baseball titles. I was looking for a fun title, but a mostly accurate one with an attention to realistic details (pitcher endurance, stat tracking, good season options, etc.) Any info you guys have would be nice. Any pros or cons that you could mention would be much appreciated. I'm curious about gameplay too, if anyone could mention that as well. thanks!
The Show doesn't appeal to me at all, by the way- if that helps in knowing what my tastes are and what I'm looking for.
titles I've been considering:
MLB power pros 2008
MLB 2k8

I'll leave the in-depth reviews to someone else, but Power Pros is hella fun and suprisingly deep.

Power Pros is good, yes. Has the Baseball Stars vibe and so much more. :)

is power pros good with season mode?
It's a shame that wii sports baseball isnt more in depth or doesnt even track stats- the skill points are followed, why not keep just simple pitching/hitting stats- it would have made a big difference.
Plus- I'm amped to see Baseball Stars 2 in the VC!!! That and Splatterhouse (TG16) will be my first purchases.

Do not get The Bigs for wii. I played the game for 5 minutes and had no idea what to do. MLB power pros looks like a really good game, and it is a title I would like to get myself. Mario Baseball is really good as well if you like the aracadish element or like mario.
MLB Power Pros has a solid season mode, I really enjoy the player development aspect of it, and you can become fairly deeply involved, lots of stat tracking as well. The mode I've put the most time into though is MLB Life, where you create a player and play through his career only doing his ABs/IP it's great seeing your guy struggle to break camp the first season or two and than after 5 or 6 winning silver sluggers or golden gloves and making the allstar team. Also just fun, simple gameplay no gimmicks or anything.

Being English I think Wii Sports has it covered, you throw, you hit, what more could you want? ;) On a serious note though the 2k series always impressed me with it's attention to detail and realism in its Ice Hockey games so they may be worth a look.

Baseball Stars 2 is on SNK Arcade Classics Vol 1, that gets you 16 Neo Geo games for around $20. A much better deal than paying $9 each for them on the VC, plus you don't have to worry about the big Neo Geo games taking up a lot of space on the Wii's internal memory.

good to know, thanks. Is there any way to check current memory space through the wii menus? If there is, I haven't found it yet.
Feel free to keep the posts coming guys, thanks! In the meantime, the consensus pick is.... power pros 08?

From the main menu, click on the Wii circle in the lower left, then "data management" and then "channels".
If you plan on getting a lot of VC/WiiWare games, I'd suggest getting a SD card to back them up on. The TG-CD, N64, Neo Geo, and WiiWare games can take up a lot of space.
You can re-download games once you buy them, but I find it's faster to have all your VC/WiiWare games on the SD card and just copy them from there. Plus if anything goes wrong with Nintendo's servers or the VC service goes kaput, you'll still have copies of all your games.

I was reading a review through gamespot for power pros 2008 and it seemed to have said (the language was unclear) that you cannot access the bullpen during games in season mode. Can anyone verify or clear this up? How could that be overlooked, that you cannot bring relievers or closers into the game during season mode???
Did they mean that you cannot warm relievers up? Any info would be great! Plus, for those dp'ers that do play power pros, how realistic are the players stats/strengths? I've heard that 70+ HR's from a star player in a season is pretty common for the power pros series.

I don't have a Wii but I have played MLB Power Pros on the PS2 and I like many of its touches. Among these include adding more players to your roster when September begins, just like the pros do. I don't recall if any other game has done this. Unfortunately, you don't get to argue with the umpire...maybe they can add that for 2009 if we have another edition...

I'd recommend Power Pros. You get great depth out of it and it's just plain fun.

You've got it you can bring in relievers, you just don't have to warm them up. I've played through dozens of seasons in MLB Life and Season mode and not once have I seen any player hit 70 homeruns or really even close, I think a few times I've seen 50 cracked. There are some weird stats and they have weird retirement dates for some players (Watch Randy Johnson play till 2016) but for the most part it's pretty good. Fell free to ask any other questions, this was my most played game of last year and I've sunk quite a few hours into er.

power pros is awesome, but the PS2 version is half the price of the wii version and they are virtually the same game. the wii exlusive control mode is weak
