...And now it looks like the PSU is (if you'll excuse the pun) bricked. I can get an amber light on it but no matter what I try the actual 360 itself just won't turn on whatsoever. :( I've rung up the support line and (after calling the automated phone lady several choice nouns) was told to try it with a friend's PSU, which I'm doing tomorrow.

Anything like this ever happened to anyone else?

I hate to bring this up but they may have given you an older, refurbished model. Depending on the revision of your board you need a different voltage power supply. I certainly hope this is not the case, but this happened when I let my friend borrow my backup 360 and gave him the wrong PSU.

May? No, definately. MS Does not send back new systems to replace/repair ones sent in broken. You will either get your original unit back, replaced or you will get a refurb.

Nebragram, how old was your original system? Do you know what chipset you had in it? If you still have your return coffin look for a little white sticker that will have 3 barcodes on it with 3 long strings of numbers. On the bottom right of that sticker will be a name. When I got my 'new' system back 2 months ago, I saw that I ended up getting another refurb'd Xenon Pro model (as the sticker states), even though Xenon boards havn't been sold new in quite a while.

They normally replace your system with another of the same kind, this time you might not have gotten the right one.

My 360 (and, thusly the PSU) was a launch model. My coffin only has one sticker on it- the UPS one- with two barcodes so I think that's a transatlantic culture clash there- thanks for the info anyway though. :)

I did notice that the mf date on the back said 2007, though.

The last time my 360 died, they sent me a refurb without an HDMI input. I was pretty annoyed. On the other hand, they 2 day shipped a replacement to me after I sent out an email, so I can't be too upset.

Don't bother calling them, Nebagarm: email them from Xbox live a couple times first. That should get the ball rolling.

Are they still sending out the 30 days of Xbox Live coupons with your replacement?

Indeed they are.

It lives! I can't explain it, but after a bit of fiddling, power now goes through it once again. Now I just have to get all my settings back the way they once were...

If you can figure out how to turn on auto-login please post it as it's been driving me crazy.

Me too. Mine stop doing that when I got it back and I have no idea why.

The "auto signon" is stored on a NAND on the motherboard.

In NXE, hit the guide button go to the last blade. Hit your account settings, there's an option in there somewhere for auto-signin. I'll update later with better instructions once i have a 360 in front of me.

I got a brand new replacement in August. The date on it was June 28th. I called support as I was concerned about the PSU, and they confirmed I had a warranty of 1 yr, indicating new, rather than the usual 90 days. It had no HDMI either though.

Oh, and the old PSU's should work on the newer units, just not the other way around.

Guess what I'm struggling with most. :)

Start your xbox, press the xbox button, go to the settings tab, choose profile then choose auto sign in.

Yep, thanks to the pointers here I finally found it. Sign in, then go guide, settings, profile, auto sign in. It's not super obvious but I don't know how I missed that in the 10+ minutes I probably spent looking. Thanks all.
