There are actually a ton of colleges in the US/Germany/Scandanavia that offer Masters and Doctoral degrees in Game Design, or ludology. I know at least that Ga. Tech, USC, UT-Austin do, and I think maybe MIT also. In Central Europe/Scandanavia, it's becoming relatively common.
If you can major in film studies, why not game studies?

The University of Toledo offers a degree in Gameboy Development. It's not labeled that way, but that's literally EXACTLY what it is.
