Ars Technica takes a look at the development of the Ghostbusters game due out later this year. They go through the promising early demonstrations, the subsequent relegation to developmental limbo, and the project's eventual resurrection. Quoting: "Everyone involved with the game was extremely enthusiastic about its progress, as evidenced both by Sierra's heavy promotion of the title, as well as by how genuinely excited a number of the company's PR team were about it. Now, it isn't all that uncommon to talk with PR folk and be fed a line about how great whatever product they're promoting is, but even after several hours of drinking copious amounts of alcohol, the enthusiasm never waned; this definitely wasn't the case when we discussed some of the other titles that had been on display during the day's event. Even the members of the press corps, as we huddled together and compared notes, generally agreed that Ghostbusters had been the most impressive thing we'd gotten to see at the event. All in all, it looked like Sierra was going to deliver a game that finally gave the Ghostbusters franchise the respect it deserved, and none of us could wait to get our hands on it."http://games.slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rss&op=image&style=h0&sid=09/01/21/0831238 (http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/01/21/0831238&from=rss)

While the Ghostbusters franchise has seen some spotty screen-to-game translations in the past (and the upcoming current gen version does look AMAZING) there have been several versions that I've enjoyed.
Now that I think about it quite a few!
The Sega Master System version was the best of the "David Crane" versions of the game (nicest graphics, best play control, and an acutal ending "showdown" with Gozer!)
The Arcade version of The Real Ghostbusters was a decent 3 player dungeon crawler.
The Gameboy version of Ghostbusters II with it's chibi-style renditions of Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson was one of my favorite gameboy games of that generation.
And the Sega Genesis game was a fun, unique (albeit short) platformer.
I think that all-in-all there were probably more winners than stinkers in the history of Ghostbusters games.

I'm really looking forward to this game, I just hope the Wii version doesn't get the short end of the proton pack.

That isn't a Ghostbusters game. It's some weird Japanese game with the GB license tacked onto it.
Yes, the (edit) PS3/360 (/edit) game looks awesome, but I hate the developer. I can't get too hopeful over it. I know it'll be trash. :(

Well, it didn't originate as a Ghostbusters game but it was skinned with Ghostbuster graphics and music for the US and Europe and distributed by Data East. And I still enjoy it no matter how strange it was.
It's SORT OF (stay with me) the equivalent of Konami putting X-Men skins on the TMNT arcade game engine and calling it an X-Men game (yes I know it wasn't technically the TMNT engine, but you know what I mean).

When I said "I hate the developer" I was talking about the new GB game, not the Data East one. The Data East one is decent. :p

Or slapping Mario Sprites over Doki Doki Panic.
Kitsune, It's still a Ghost Buster game, even if it's an edited port of something else.

I'm saying it again, I never said the arcade game was bad, just that I hate the developer of the 360x/PS3 game. :P

I didn't say you said it was bad. You said it wasn't a Ghostbuster's game. o.O
Who is the 360 developer anyway?

Terminal Reality, a.k.a. the BloodRayne guys. Also the dumbasses that have ruined several of SNK's PS2 compilations.

Yesssss. Much better analogy.
And I didn't say that Kitsune said it was bad either ... I just referenced his descriptor "weird"...which it is content-wise.

I never liked Bloodrayne, But Nocturne was one of my favorite games on the PC for a very long time. Come to think of it, the game wasn't that good, but the mood and the Main character, the Stranger, really sold it for me.

Bloodrayne was rough around the edges, but it wasn't that bad. I wrote a semi-literate review of it on this site ages ago. Reading that again makes me cringe. If nothing else I hope that Ghostbusters will be that same sort of guilty pleasure.
