Does it still work or XBOX 1 Games with live work on 360 live?

Leo_A

Yes, the vast majority of Xbox Live enabled titles for the original Xbox still work. However, most of the communities are dead, even for popular games like Project Gotham Racing 2. Besides Halo 2 and probably a couple of other popular fps's, your not likely to find anyone to play with.

Yeah Halo 2 is about all that is left for the original Xbox on Live.

Here's the top 10 Live-active Xbox games (as of 1/12/09) according to Marjor Nelson:

1 Halo 2
2 Star Wars: Battlfrnt 2
3 Fable
4 Counter-Strike
5 Conker: Live Reloaded
6 Doom 3
7 Star Wars: Battlefront
8 Street Fighter Anniv.
9 Splinter Cell Chaos
10 Call of Duty 3

I tried searching for a Live game of Street Fighter 3rd Strike last night but I couldn't find anything. It was really late though and I only tried for a minute.

I really should try out Battlefront before it dies down though. I've owned 1 & 2 for a while but haven't played any games online yet for some reason.

Can I play an original xbox game over xbox live on my xbox 360?

Absolutely. As for that top ten list, I tried searching for people to play Doom 3 with and it was completely empty. I can always find people to play with in Halo 2 but I didn't know Star Wars: Battlefront 2 was still so heavily populated.

I'm not that surprised that Battlefront 2 is still popular. Heck, it was probably the game that kept the PS2's online gaming service alive! (then again, BF2 for PS2 was powered by Gamespy, along with the PC version, while the Xbox version was isolated over at Live)

I keep trying to find people to play Fable with me, but i can never seem to find anyone on. It might as well just be a single player game...

Ditto, I thought it just had "Live Aware" or whatever.

Phantasy Star Online doesn't work online anymore, and it requires you to have Live to play it offline.

I no longer have a Live account, quit years ago, too many brats. :-D

I do know that you cannot start an XBOX Live account unless you have a 360 though.

So it's been bricked? That sucks. Glad I have the Dreamcast version.

That top 10 list is just users connected to Xbox Live if anyone looks at it and is confused, it doesn't mean the users are actively engaging in online multiplayer.

Finally got around to trying the Xbox version of Battlefield 2 the other night, that's a ghost town. I kind of thought people would still be playing that.

Guess I should've tried it when I got it a couple of years ago.

It's not totally bricked. You can play it offline, if you have a Live account. Which is rather silly.

Does it have to be an active Live account? I still have the info on my HD but the account itself hasn't been used in a couple of years. I'll try playing the game when I get home tonight...

Absolutely. As for that top ten list, I tried searching for people to play Doom 3 with and it was completely empty.

These two games were pretty dead for open games even when they were new. I'd assume most of the games on the list are played between friends and you're not going to have much luck getting into any sort of open/public games.

Triple. I've always thought it was only "live aware" as well. I remember talking to some of my customers when the game came out and they were telling me how much fun they had with it. But they never mentioned anything about online play.

Ditto to this too. I had that game for years and it's still shrink wrapped. The only reason I tried playing Doom 3 online is because I beat it last month and had been playing it for weeks while trying to beat it. Same thing for Darkwatch and Farcry--theres never nobody online. However, atleast for these two games you can actually play online multiplayer.....by yourself. I'm not sure why but you can. Finally, Burnout Revenge for Xbox is no longer online-active(the 360 version is) but Burnout 3 still has a dedicated group of online players(I should know because I'm one of them). And I can also find games in Star Wars: Jedi Knight Jedi Academy every now and then.

I used regular XBL for a few months up until about six months ago. Mainly I only played NBA 2K7. Battlefront II was just way too laggy, and Doom 3 and Halo 2 were unpopulated. There was something like seven people that played 2K7 so we always played against each other and it was really easy to pick up tactics and the like.

Although in my opinion, Counter-Strike was always heavily populated. You could always get a game of CS in and people actually used headsets.

Halo 2 were unpopulated.

Huh? You must be talking about a different Halo 2. I can go online in Halo 2 at midnight, 7 in the morning, 5 pm(and all the times in between) and still find dozens(if not hundreds) of people to play with.

I guess I must be thinking of a different one. I would always hit Quick Match and would sit for a few minutes with no luck.

I can always find a quick match in Halo 2--as a matter-of-fact, I prefer its' matchmaking times to Halo 3, where there can be 200,000 people online-or-what-not and I'll sit for up to 8 minutes for them to find a match for me.

I used to play Far Cry Instincts and Predator online about a year ago and sometimes would get lucky enough to have 16-player matches. I always seem to find people online in Conker, but they're fairly bratty. Battlefronts 1 and 2 are spotty, Doom is a ghost town.

I just played Star Wars: Republic Commando for the first time tonight. After playing single player, I connected online to download the free content and to see if anyone else was online. There was actually two games going on, a death match and team death match game. That was surprising.

It's still possible, but the 360 codes don't work to activate an account on the xbox1. You either need to signup through the dash or call up microsoft directly and they'll create the account using a 360 code.

I just got into a single player offline game of PSO and I haven't had a Xbox Live account for over two years. It did ask for the password for your gamertag though.

Last night after playing single player for Star Wars: Republic Commando I got on live and noticed two active games. I jumped in the one with the most players (6 or so) and we had a nice session. Of course, I kept getting pwned at first but eventually I started getting some kills.

Crimson Skies was the first xbox live game I ever played (it was a pack-in with my crystal xbox). I got a real kick out of it. I really had my ass handed to me online though.

Just got Street Fighter Anniv. today and found a match in 3rd strike within a minute or two.

There is also a handful of us still playing Guilty Gear X2 Reload. Usually 5 minutes is about all I have to wait until someone joins.

I can still find players on this game as well. There are never that many but it doesn't matter because this has always been one of the most funest(yes I just made that up) games I've played online.

I loved Crimson Skies - I played it religiously for a couple years and was consistently ranked in the top 50 - some weeks the top 10 - for months... Awesome on-line game when you could fill the ranks...

Time to necrobump this baby because the answer to the OP's query is YES!!!

Xbox Live on OG Xbox does lives again!

Insignia Live is now live in "closed" beta form, but they are currently still sending out invites. If you have a modded system, pretty easy to set it up. Unmodded you have options as well!

Does voice work? I have a mangled headset somewhere.....

Biggest annoyance for me is I cannot get COD Finest Hour to run on my console since rebuilding the softmod using the Rocky5 one. It immediately crashes. I think the Star Wars Battlefronts are being added Monday!

I want to say that MVG said it does but I can’t confirm ATM as I don’t want to watch the video.

I did not get a chance to try this weekend. A couple of my kids wanted D&D and so that was my focus. Maybe tomorrow night if I can find a headset.

Ooooo....now I'm REALLY interested to hear folks taunt me as I crash to the ground flaming in "Crimson Skies".

I couldn't find a headset locally so I went to the 'Bay and ordered a supposed "new" one: Check it out (https://www.ebay.com/itm/225263936232?hash=item3472c6e2e8:g:8i8AAOSwLzRjSK1 3&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAsJOAkCQUr9CN5VKw3sDczYQIuMSMZ ZgFzAJOE%2BquDHHaQGsnmRAPKk2y2%2BXrnrMRPeTHoTYbyDy tnT9lWwSv9tUC68eA13EMh3rK%2BK4tMg4oy0zpvAmtyZrOqkA 4TfBgYBr1DOsRNSDFvUI9yIxmAusO%2FhmB8I%2FR%2FAIP8r6 277O840UttAQyOoi1dfd7DOqirL7L7H5YwowvN8kJ1NKPC70fB F1shn4AGO%2BKuFcs%2BAA%2B%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-iwwpWUYQ)

More than I would love to pay BUT if it truly is new and works, I'm not going to scoff too much.

It feels like a flippin' lifetime ago since I played the old XBL. I think I played a demo of it first on XBL and met a really cool guy that was helping folks get their feet wet with the game. All he wanted was to be air lifted to the top of a spire on some tower (it was a desert level with a small town/base). I was able to fly by it and he jumped out, landing on the spire in a comical balance act. There he stood and sniped at folks. For a long time no one thought to look up after their soldier got a long-distance brain removal procedure via bullet.

I barely used it back then. My PC games had better multiplayer and they were FREE.
