From what I gathered, This was supposed to be a portable unit and originally was supposed to be a square unit but was changed to round like a watchman's clock to reduce damage when dropped. Here are two pictures:
This picture shows a game:

This one shows the controller and a box (CGI Image)

Anyone here know more about this?

I've never heard of this before. Did this thing go retail at any point. Pretty cool looking none the less.

As far as I know it was never released. Something I forgot to say was it was going to use regular CD sized disks but they changed it to mini disks, Like Gamecube. There are at least 4 games for it, Don't know what they all are.

I know that it's fake (not that it was ever intended to mislead). The white Saturn analog pad should have been the tip-off, but here you go:

As far as I know it's a fake...a delicious looking fake.

Well, I stand corrected...THAT should have been the tip-off...

That controller would be difficult to use, with it's un-ergonomic design. And why do the whole throwback to the Saturn analog stick? That's what really shows that it's a fake. I would think that Sega would have the sense to move on from that design. Maybe use the original Japanese Saturn controller design but with twin analog sticks added, if you're going to do a throwback controller.

LMAO!!! It's a Roomba! A FREAKING ROOMBA! LOL!
This would be Sega's best system ever. It plays all your favorite 768-bit games AND vacuums your house! :) Brilliant!

I knew it wasn't a real product as soon as I noticed the flimsy little hinge on the drive. That thing would get snapped off in no time.
The wave bird thing is also a dead giveaway.

That is a wonderful looking fake. I particularly like the Gamecube control ports. LOL Good stuff there.

Is there any history behind this thing? Like, was it done by a mag or a website as an April fools prank? Stuff like that fascinates me.

Dude, reading is fundamental. I posted a link to the original source. Some university kid did it for fun.

Bumping up from ages ago, the truth is I don't really know that. I was hanging around Mike Mozart's Blog TV streams at the time and he said he was responsible for working on this but at the same time he didn't say anything about it being a fake; I don't know how he fits in with this. The mini disks thing is just his word on it, I don't really know if he was kidding or if he genuinely believed it to be a real console he worked on amidst all his other work.
Mike Mozart works in toys. He also illustrated books. He also has a (mostly dormant in recent years) Youtube channel where he posted videos of toys that are a little bit off kilter, that's how I met him on the internet.
