Hi! I'm new here - hope to make new friends!

My first post is about a NES modification called "The Simpsons IV: Return of the Space Mutants" for Nintendo Entertainment System. Original game is THQ's "Swamp Thing" and I created it back in 2001. Enjoy!

Swamp Thing was also produced by Imagineering Inc. So trust me: You'll feel like playing a bad designed, difficult official Simpsons title. The magic thing about the hack is that you'll remember ALL the annoying stuff from Space Mutants, Bart x The World.. Is all there. The difference is that Bart looks a little better now!

Looks cool! But, then again, since I actually LIKE the NES Simpsons games, that's not a worthy opinion...

Thanks!
And don't get me wrong.. I know those games are bad but I love them too.
I still know every single corner of the old Bart Simpson titles, specially Bart vs. Space Mutants! LOL

Because it didn't have The Simpsons on it.

I kinda liked Space Mutants, it's a pretty unique game. But I liked "World" a lot more.

I didn't like that Bart vs The World seemed to be more or less just a bunch of minigames. I was never able to beat the Great Wall level as a kid... Wonder if I could now?

It did lead to Virtual Bart, though... Which some people love and some people hate. I'd say more people hated.

I hope you can it now. That's the second level of the game.

Haha I haven't played it since I was about ten.

The control scheme seemed broken to me, at the time.

I dunno, it probably had more to do with me being ten.

Actually, it had to do with the fact that the guy who programmed the controls was ten. Still, I do like the games...

Nice work on that game! I didn't think any of the Simpsons games were very good back then, and that was thanks to the exclusive deal with Acclaim. What a shame. The Simpsons were the biggest thing back then, and game after game was bad.

PS: I'd love to see Konami's Simpsons Arcade ported to a console one of these days! The best Simpsons game back then, maybe ever, and only got ported to DOS and Commodore 64.

I got past level one of Bart Vs the Space Mutants maybe twice. That game is bullshit hard.

Rent? I picked the game as a b-day present.

Not bad enough?

I chose it over "StarTropics"!

I would love to see the Arcarde game on NES - Just like the TMNT adaptation.

Apparently a lot of the people who worked on Space Mutants worked on the two Home Alone games, suggesting that those might be worthy of hacking too.

The Simpsons, X-Men and G.I. Joe were some other great Konami licensed arcade games of that period, which couldn't get ported, because they didn't have the console deals. Simpsons would probably have been ported to SNES and Genesis, since it came out in 1991.

I'm not the least bit surprised by this.

I actually like Bart v Space Mutants, it isn't that bad of a game. It certainly is the best of all the console Simpsons games, well next to Hit and Run that is. The latest Simpsons game isn't that bad either, I didn't exactly play the main game, but having more than half the town follow and help you beat the shit out of things was pretty rad.

I chose it over "StarTropics"!

Could've been worse, you could have chosen that horrible Muppets game instead. I remember picking that game when I was 8 or so, don't exactly remember what I had to choose from, but I'm sure it was hell of a lot better than that awful awful game.

I have no pity for *ANY* game that has terrible control.

Or games that reek of "we got a hot video game license, lets throw something together and get it to market".

I don't think I ever made it past the first level. I don't remember seeing another other level until I watched them on youtube

Or games that reek of "we got a hot video game license, lets throw something together and get it to market".The ironic thing is that people like Garry Kitchen (http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,25192/) and David Crane (http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,24639/) ought to be expected to deliver a top-quality product.

In fact Imagineering Inc. worked only on Home Alone 2.
First game is bad enough even for their standards.

Honestly, I don't think Simpsons on NES have bad playability. The graphics suck, the music suck but the control is good. The game is hard as hell but there is no direct relation with the controls.

I admit to being picky about tight control.

But even when I was younger I knew the control on "Space Mutants" was stiff.

Good lord, I hope you're joking. The play control on those games is simply atrocious.

I got to the babysitter boss at the end of the second level of Bart Vs. The Space Mutants, but I only did it once and usually couldn't get anywhere near that far. It was just bitch hard and controlling Bart was a pain. I could get a little farther in Bart Vs. The World, but all Simpsons games were dissapointing rents for me until Hit and Run. The recent one for 360 is all right, too, because of it's co-op play.

I'm glad you released a video of your ROM hack. I don't think I could bare the pain of trying to play Swamp Thing again. Very nice work, though.

I rather liked Escape from Camp Deadly for the GB, but it still had pretty bad control. (It had a lot of the same music as Space Mutants, if I'm not mistaken.)

It seems a lot of people on here had a hard time with Bart v. Space Mutants, I remember being able to make it to the third level just fine and never made it past that without Game Genie. I will agree that the controls were hella stiff tho, I remember having to fight with them to get Bart to jump in the direction I wanted, which just made the jumps in the second level a nightmare.

That was one of my favorite games for GB, I don't remember much about it, just that it was hard as hell and I couldn't get past what seemed to be a bear.

I made it to the 3rd level (The Carnival) once. And that was on a good day with lady luck working overtime. I never used the GG because at the time there were never nay *GOOD* (Ie: invincibility) codes for this game.

The only good thing I can ever say about "Bart vs. The Space Mutants" is that after getting that piece of crap I tried to avoid anything related to Acclaim.

I've beaten Space Mutants within a week of good play. It wasn't easy, but each play I was getting better at that game.

When I was younger I was able to trick myself into thinking I liked the Simpsons games because I liked the show, and as a kid fandom can motivate you to like crap. Consequently I played all the through Space Mutants and World, with a little practice/effort. They aren't great games, but they are perfectly beatable. I didn't play "Meets Radio-active Man" until I was much older (like 27). I couldn't stomach through the first level. I don't think it's any harder than the others, I'm just not enamored with Simpsons anymore and can't be blinded to the flaws.

Push Upstairs

I can probably attribute my younger self not bothering to practice the game simply because it just wasn't that fun to play.

There are speedruns available for both Space Mutants and World on Youtube presently. (Looks like you could get through either game in fifteen minutes, if you wanted to.) After watching them, I'm glad I was never compelled to try to finish those games.
