View Full Version : Facebreaker: the toughest sports game of 2008!

I recently picked up Facebreaker for the 360 when it was on sale for $10 at Best Buy a few weeks back, and I have to say that based on everything I'd heard and read about the game, I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I played it. Most of the online postings I'd read suggested that the game was terrible, and while I don't agree with that statement, I think it's overly complicated for a sports game.

It is perhaps the toughest boxing game I've ever played, not only because the opponents' attacks which include kicks and throws in addition to punches are lightning-fast but also because it's important to block and parry the whole time you're trying to punch.

In other words, the controls completely mar the experience of the rest of the game. I swear, my hand started to hurt like hell and I had to pause several times during all the matches I've played over the past few days just to give it a rest.

With that said, I'm addicted to this game and I can't stop playing it on easy mode. The medium and expert modes are insanely difficult, so playing those modes becomes an exercise in trying to stay alive through all of the rounds rather than winning.

Facebreaker isn't a Ready 2 Rumble clone and it isn't an arcade version of Knockout Kings or Fight Night. With the parry system, it reminds me a lot of a fighting game - more Soul Calibur than Street Fighter, though.

Has anyone else spent time with this game?

Not yet.

I do know that the achievements are ridiculously tough though.

I played the demo and thought it was too poor to warrent further interest, what about it makes it up there with Street Fighter? Fight Night had parrying so its no new thing in a boxing game.

I played the demo and was wholly unimpressed. I gave the full game some time at the local gaming store, and if the game has some sort of rhythm or method to the madness, I sure as heck couldn't see it.

The only reason I'd even consider picking this one up (loooooooong after it hit the bargain bin) is for the ring girl. :D

I couldn't get into Fight Night due to the use of the analog sticks, so Street Fighter III: Third Strike is the only game where I'm used to parrying a lot that compares to Facebreaker for me. Facebreaker boxing matches are probably more like fencing than anything else.

On the 360 Fight Night (Round 3) at least, analog sticks were not a necessity (I couldn't grasp those controls either), they had a button set up that worked pretty well. I really liked that game...Facebreaker didn't seem too exciting to me.

Im in the same boat Jose, this game is extremely hard. I think ive won maybe 3 fights total in about 3 hours of play. I had the same experience with my hand cramping up on me and i have to say that this is one of the only games that has done that to me in a very long time. I think its worth $10 but not much more.
