Okay. I've recently decided to get an official SNES, as opposed to some clone that won't play everything.
Now, the SNES 2....does that play all of the original SNES games and use ALL of the original accessories (except the Stellaview, obviously) including SMRPG, Super Game Boy, and anything that did not work with the FC Twin/Retro Duo?

If I can remember well, the SNES Game Genie doesn't work with the mini SNES 2 (it boots, but there are no code effects)....And it does works with the RetroDuo...

as far as i know all the games work on the snes 2. the only thing i'm aware of about the snes 2 is that it doesn't output S-video, if you care about those kinda things.

thats the same with all snes decks after around 92ish, they started fucking with copiers and cheat carts. some codes wont work on some games, some games ont even work at all with a gg on, etc.

Just get an original SNES. It's better. I am not aware of any advantages of getting a SNES 2 aside from it being smaller.

Does it still turn yellow?

That's something that might irritate me a bit, if it ever turns yellow...

Yeah, there's no s-video on the mini. If your TV has s-video in, definately get the original model. I can confirm that the Game Genie doesn't work correctly. Depending on the Game Genie version, it either won't work at all, or only the first and last code lines (which means just 2 codes instead of 5).

Well, the lack of S-video doesn't bother me... The TV I'll be using it with doesn't have S-video anyway, so it's not important.
I guess I'll have to live with the yellowing plastic...
Well, thanks everyone!

Other than the S video and the iirc spd ooooorc.....? I have 7 systems hooked up so the I like smaller one. (Snes 2). The other factor would be did you see it cheap? I have had probably 15-20 original Snes's but have only found 1 Snes2, sooo..... If it's cheap grab it. It also looks good next to the Nes top loader.

Does it still turn yellow?

I have 3 original SNES consoles and none of them are yellow. There are plenty of them on ebay that are not yellow and if it hasn't turned yellow in the past 18 years, I'm pretty sure you will be OK.

For example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130282796348&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR4 0%26_trksid%3Dm38.l1313%26_nkw%3D130282796348%26_s acat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1

The SNES 2 always struck me as cheaply made. It just seems flimsy and aside from lacking S-video, it also lacks an eject button and an LED light. Granted, none of these things may be a big deal, but you have to start asking yourself why you would choose an SNES 2 versus the original if there are no advantages.

Neither of my SNES model 2s are yellowed, and the Game Genie does bring up the code entry screen, though I haven't tried using it for that - I'm just using it as a pass-through for SFC games. SMRPG works fine. I think Donkey Kong Country didn't want to work though (maybe I put it on top of the Game Genie, not sure).

While Sega allowed the Game Genie to have the official license, Nintendo had a stick up their asses about it(more like an entire TREE, really). Galoob even tried to get the license first but Nintendo threw a hissy fit about cheating in games.

Funny that they didn't oppose game developers adding in cheat codes to their games.

That's different though. In the case of cheat codes, those are built into the game by the developers/programmers that actually make the game. I think Nintendo's problem was that game code was being modified after the fact.

I have a US Snes2 and all the games I have work fine. I've also removed the plastic bits inside the cartridge slot and I've been playing all my Super Famicom games without problems.

Plastics turn yellow from being in a smoker's home. That's why you see people put emphasis on eBay that items come from a non-smoker's house. As for the SNES 2, that's the model I got alongside my PS1 for christmas in '97. Good year!
It works just fine with every game I've played on it, including my super gameboy, but I never tried a GG on it, so I dunno... other than that and my contacts being a bit worn (need to use a makeshift wedge to boot & keep random freezes at bay), it's been pleasant.

That has nothing to do with it.

We've had this discussion before so I'll just throw this link out here:
