An anonymous reader writes "Metallica has announced the setlist for their upcoming Guitar Hero game. They have a wide variety of songs from their different albums. There are 28 Metallica songs and 21 from other artists. They have also confirmed the release date of March 29th. The list includes Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, One, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. Fans who pre-order the game will have an opportunity to get an extra bass drum pedal to keep up with Lars Ulrich's beats."http://games.slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rss&op=image&style=h0&sid=09/01/26/0722226 (http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/01/26/0722226&from=rss)

Conspiracy time...

I'm convinced this Guitar Hero/Rock Band genre will come crashing down by next year. Retailers are already hesitant to devote so much space to these huge boxes for each new release and separate instruments during non-holiday times.

That being said...I can't wait for this game. However, I'll just be buying the disc-only version. I have a sneaking suspicion that Activision doesn't want people to just buy the game...they want you to buy the whole package (new drums, new guitar, etc.). It wouldn't surprise me at all if Activision purposely makes the game-only version hard to find. I guess we'll see.

I've heard the genre is pretty much at it's peak, but I don't think it will crash by next year.

I'm curious about the Metallica game and the Beatles game personally. The latter could be pretty big.

The non-Metallica tracks are actually pretty appealing, but I'm neither a great fan of the faux-rockstar genre or willing to suffer through that much epic butt-rock to get to play them.

I know it's all stagnating, but I'm gonna support the corporate bullshit and buy this one, likely with the extra bass pedal deal.

Some of my favorite Metallica songs are on there, as well as a couple that seem like they'd be fun to play.

There are like 15 extra tracks I'd enjoy. The inclusion of Alice In Chains secures my purchase, honestly.

That's a good selection of tracks, but I'll probably the price to drop before buying it. Even though I'm a huge Metallica fan, the GH games are fun for a weekend and then they get shelved.

I don't think it going to come crashing down, but I think the fad is running its' course. I think seeing some cheesy special on MTV about a Rock Band competetion where the people were acting like they were in a real band put the nail in the coffin for me.

Seeing all the unsold copies of GH Aerosmith has probably gotten retailers spooked, especially in this economy, people aren't likely to drop $100 (or more) on just one game. I think both GH and RB are going to move to more of just DLC updates and no disc-based stuff. There is a group of hardcores that will by just about any song released as DLC, and I'm sure there's a pretty good profit margin on them.

The hidden track will be a speed metal version of "Napster BAD!"

I would give anything for this!!!

(as long as it has the animated Lars crawling around the outside of the screen while James keeps yelling "fire bad!")

Hmmm, I'm kind of ??? why they chose only 3 songs from AJFA. Dyer's Eve? Ok, song, but certainly not a first pick from the album, and certainly a song that got no radio play. The song One I understand, but it's been used before in GH3, and Shortest Straw...wtf? Excluding One, the other two are the two weakest songs on the album, imo. Ok selection otherwise, but seriously, who wants to play any of the Load era songs?

I wonder if set one is in Rob McGovny's or whatever the hell his name is garage. That was their first bassist's house. When Mustaine was still in. Basically, I'm wondering about the historical accuracy of their "venues" and members if they use that kind of "plot" for the game. Whatever, we'll see.

Here's a question? Why include One on the tracklist when One was on Guitar Hero 3. I mean it's the exact same series. It's not like something being on Guitar Hero and then going on Rock Band. It's on Guitar Hero and going on Guitar Hero again.

There are also a few songs that shouldn't be on there as there are far better ones. Why do they even put some of their crappy songs when they have a list of great unused songs from multiple albums? If you ask me, Metallica has only done four good albums with nearly every song on those albums being the best out there, while every other album pretty much sucking aside from maybe one or two songs.

I'm surprised to see a Samhain song up there. I kinda of interested in this now.
