Clear plastic Nes game cases kill games?

I wanted to play Chavez 2 and I keep it in one of those clear plastic clam shell Nintendo cases but it doesn't work no more. It used to! It's just been sitting in it. My thoughts on this have been, I live in San Diego and it gets HOT here. The carts are not suposed to be stored in extreme heat. In those cases the games can't breath, they get too hot and die. I opened the cart and the green on the board had kinda like yellowish sticky honey resideu, like if the board swetted to death. The bad part is I have all my most rare/exspensive games in these. Should I take them out? Or drill air holes or something? Anyone else living in a hot place have this problem?

What you need to do is take all your carts out of the cases, put them in a big cardboard box, throw that box away, and pay more attention in science class.

Could it be that I'm using a Snes 2? and Yes I do acually have it in a clear plastic Snes game case. But some others are Nes. I cleaned the crap out of it. I just dont understand what could have happend. It's just been sitting in that case. I have played it before. I was just wondering if this is a problem that anyone else has experienced? I never, ever thought I'd see a post begin with that line...

All kidding aside, I'm no science whiz, but it seems like the fact that it's in a case shouldn't add significantly to how hot it's getting unless that item is in direct sunlight to actually absorb heat. Wouldn't the case keep heat out? Regardless, pretty strange that it's all of a sudden not working.

I don't think the cases will kill the games, but I also do think they provide the protection you are asking about. The main function of the cases is to protect games from: 1. The games being dropped and damaged and 2. Items being dropped on the game and damaging it.

Some cases do protect from UV light as well.

Regarding the heat, the cases are not designed for that purpose (nor to protect against cold). As far as I know extreme heat or cold wouldn't do more damage.

I would be more worried about moisture getting into the case and sitting there, rather than heat. I don't know how many times I have gone to a market and opened this type of case to find a wilted label and corrosion because moisture had gotten in there.

I don't really know what to say about your particular game, but every game reacts differently to the elements, just as people do. It's possible you could have just gotten a game with lower quality parts or something. But I wouldn't worry about the case too much, unless you can actually pinpoint that the case is causing the issue, I don't think it is.
