I have a 360 that my old roomate left when he moved out to live back with his parents, its been 2 months and he still hasnt came back for it(he took the games and controllers though). I don't think he is interested in coming back for it

What do I need to do to send the 360 to Microsoft, Do I need a receit or anything?

is there a good thread on this site that can help explain what they ask and what not?

If you go to xbox.com and poke around, it will walk you through the whole thing step-by-step. I've heard some horror stories, but mine went very quickly and smoothly (December of 09, at Christmas time no less).

It basically goes:

1) You register the console.
2) You report the problem online.
3) They either send you a box (postage paid) or you ship the box yourself.
4) You drop it off at a UPS store.
5) They give you a confirmation/tracking number when it's received/finished.
6) Your Xbox comes back repaired and you get a free month of Xbox Live for your troubles.

Yea.. Basically all you need is the seal to be intact, and you should be set to do what the previous person said above.

I've had friends buy RROD Xboxs online before to find the warranty still intact.. Long story short they re-registered it to themselves and had the console repaired.

That's sorta what I did with mine.

I bought it used from a Gamestop.

Then, I sold it to a friend.

The friend subsequently sold it back to me.

Three owners and two years later, the RROD warranty was still in tact. They give you two extra years for RROD from the manufacture date, so it's pretty likely that this guy won't have any problems.
