Rumor is that they are sitting on boats in Hong Kong, ready for shipment.

Should be a week or two, maybe...

Hm, I'm still wondering whether or not I should buy it online or locally...

I have the option, so I'm probably going to buy it locally.

We will be carrying them at 8-Bit Classics also. I believe May 1st is a reasonable time frame from my understanding. I was also told limited stock so first orders get priority. Links if anybody is interested.

Individual stores might only get so many per order, but as a consumer I'm not counting on the overall supply being all that short, and if even the original FC Mobile is still plentiful then this won't be scarce.

I met and bought a Genesis AV cable off 8bit classics (Koltz) at MGC.

It'd be unfair for me to prefer one vendor over another, but I will vouch for his authenticity - nobody should be concerned about buying from him.

The number of units arriving in the first batch is a limited quantity. We always make a small first batch in case we come across unforeseen defects or flaws. I don't know if we'll sell out, although I sure hope so.

I wonder how much it is to preorder on 8bit Classics.

Thanks Tofu :)

We are taking Pre-Orders at $52.99 plus including a Free Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt Cart (what else am I going to do with all of them) with the Pre-Orders. The initial batch is limited so, the first orders I get will get priority over the others. But guessing Hyperkin will be getting a steady supply after the initial.

It's the Genesis systems I'm most interested in... as I have my Retro Duo lot posted for sale anwyay, meaning I'm just not inetrested in the NES stuff enough to play the games I have, let alone order an FC Mobile 2.

04-10-2009, 02:21 PM
I can't wait for the FC Mobile 2. But after I get that...

Although a Genesis portable is cool and I would probably get it, I'd MUCH rather have a portable that's never been done before. Why is there no SNES or N64 portable in the works? An Atari 2600 one is, however, and I can't wait.

The not-so-hot Atari Flashback and her awesome little sister -- Flashback 2.0 -- will soon have an itty-bitty portable sibling. Curt Vendel, the Flashback's designer, recently unveiled a prototype portable Atari 2600 on the AtariAge forums. It sports an angular early-1980s design and includes a 2.5" 320 x 240 TFT LCD screen with NTSC A/V output. Power will be supplied by 3 x AAA batteries (just like the Coleco/SEGA handheld).

Vendel seems determined to support DIY modifications. He explains, "There will be test points around the cpu chip to access all of the signals, I will also release the pinout of the chip, something I wasn't allowed to do previously." He also reports that the USB connector on the prototype will be replaced by a 'mini-connector' (presumably USB-B) for loading new games. This is great news for homebrew 2600 game authors, since they'll finally have a brand new platform to showcase their work. There's also a 20-pin 'micro connector' to allow users to easily hack up their own controllers (paddles, trackballs, etc.)

Of course, some sacrifices had to be made to create an affordable Atari 2600 portable: it's not 100% compatible with the original, so some titles that stretched the limits of the original hardware (Pitfall II, for example) won't run. Several 2600 die-hards have also commented on the placement of the d-pad controller, which places the 'fire' button on the opposite side compared to the original Atari joystick.

Vendel is aiming for a $39.99 retail price and the black prototype case will be replaced with something a tad more authentic. "A 2600 woody themed case is what is in the works right now," he remarks.

I saw it first hand at MGC. Marty Goldberg (part of the team) brought it with him to the show along with the Gene Simmons' Axe Guitar he helped create. Looked pretty slick though I didn't see it on as I was manning my booth the whole time.

The screen on that thing looks VERY small. Like a GB Micro. There's no reason it can't be larger. And I don't see a need to follow the 2600 joystick layout... d-pad on the left has worked just fine for almost 30 years, no need to go backwards now. Being a purist isn't always a good thing.

Castlevania III is one of my favorite Castlevania games, and Popeye is in my top three favorite arcade games, and the NES version is the best home version.

I got to hold the mock-up of the Flashback 3 at MGC and I must say that everything about it is perfect. D pad placement as well as the fire button are right where they need to be. As it was a non-functioning mock-up, I was not able to playtest it but it just "feels" right. I think the only thing lacking on it is the money to mass-produce it and bring it to market, so any angel investors reading this need to pony up some cash :D

You are receiving this e-mail because you preorderd an FC Mobile 2 through Stone Age Gamer.

We are still waiting on Hyperkin to receive their shipment of FC Mobile 2s from the port. Unfortunately your preordered FC Mobile 2 will not ship on May 7th as advertised. We are now changing the ship date to May 14th, however this is completely speculative on our part.

As soon as we receive our shipments of FC Mobile 2s they will ship. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please understand that this is not a reflection of Stone Age Gamer's service. We can only give you what information we have.

All preorders are 100% refundable. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us.
