$50 and free ship isn't bad, but where the hell do they get a "regular price" of $150 from?

Thats what I was wondering... Their discount price is the regular price everywhere else. Price gouging, anyone?

They just throw out a high number to make it sound like they are saving us tons. I know it's BS, but don't care because the 49.99 shipped price is still the best I've seen out there.

Mine just came Monday. What a great deal for just $49.99 shipped, and I just ordered it Friday. While I love it so far, a couple of minor gripes:

I really don't like how in order to change the batteries (4 AA), I have to use a mini screwdriver to take the back off. Also, why AA? Why not a recharable like digital camera's use? Finally, while the huge NES cart has to stick out, it would have been nice if it went down all the way to minimize it. It goes down less than halfway. An inch and a half is clearly wasted.

Now, the positives:

I just tested it with Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (on purpose, to celebrate the release of the Wii version just released). The screen is crisp and clear, and I like the button layout. They didn't get the "A" and "B" backwards this time. Sound is loud. Slightly muzzled, but should be much better with headphones. While a bit thick, the unit (hehe, I said "thick unit") is very light and compfortable. Was a pleasure to play. I can't tell you how well battery life is yet, nor can I say how hooking it up to a TV is yet, but I'm sure the latter is fine. All in all a great deal, I got it here:

I'm already working on the next project and the upcoming E3 show but I do appreciate the feedback.

btw Sega of America, Sega of Japan and AtGames has changed our product names for those Genesis consoles. It's now "Firebox Diamond - Video Game Console" and "Digital Pocket - Handheld System"

This might be asking too much, but how about SD support for the next one? This way we could load the ROMS on the SD and play from there.

An SD slot would we be inviting protest due to copyright this and that IE enabling use of illegal roms. They would have to push pretty hard that its for homebrew only then.

Cannot support emulation.

On a personal level I prefer cartridges just because it's satisfying to find that coveted copy of Earthbound in the wild.

Second, no retro store owner would ever speak to me again if I began distributing anything supporting emulation.

As you said about the Sega System, Should I retitle the thread and what exactly was the new name of the Pluto?

Well, not exactly. Emulators are 100% legal. The ROM's are what would cause problems. So as long as it doesn't include any ROMs, and states something like "Only use a ROM of the actual copy you own", they're fine.

Probably better to start a whole new thread.

Firebox Diamond and Digital Pocket are the product names. Unlike the FCM2 these units are manufactured by another company so I cannot make any changes to them, we're stuck with certain things.

The 2600 one coming (hopefully) this year features a USB port, SD support, and ROM support.

I too prefer carts, BUT it is a pain having to go to my display case, take out a NES game from the box, and play it. They're just so big. Still, I'm not complaining, I love what that have done with the FC Mobile II.

But that's a different company entirely.

I don't care what the Sega consoles are called as long as at least the handheld is released. Though the involvement of AtGames makes me fear that the hardware might end up being the same level of incompatible crap that AtGames used in that tiny console clone they released last year and sold for $50.

(The screen is much clearer and brighter than it looks in that pic)

I love the system. Its comfortable to hold, the controls are great. The system has good speakers that can be freakin loud if you wish. Only complaint was the screw on the battery hatch. I removed it because it was pretty unecassary considering it already had that push down clip thing on it.
The cord in the top is the ac adaptor.
The system looks great on TV with the AV out too.

My verdict:

BUY IT NOW!

It's a NES Christmas in May!

I have played several PAL & reproduction games, they all work fine. I'm very impressed! A+

That thing does look dead sexy. I always thought the original Mobile looked too much like an old transistor radio. The improved compatibility looks like the real clincher, though, so I'm definitely going to be ordering one of my own sometime in June (I got a PSP on clearance at BestBuy last week, so that's where that money went for May).

Fingers crossed that the Digital Pocket ends up being the real deal. The idea of a portable Genesis is so tantalizing (second only to the idea of a portable SNES) that I already know I'll be ordering one ASAP, potential flaws and all. Just please let it play Raiden Trad and El Viento, and I'll be happy (once I actually eBay those games, since I haven't owned any Genesis stuff in a decade and a half).

AtGames has been revealed to be in charge of the Genesis hardware, the factory that made the FCM2 won't make the Genesis stuff, and tofu's vanished.

My enthusiasm for this stuff has taken a strong nosedive. Just because their prototype hardware has decent compatibility, I won't expect the final models to follow suit after the Twin Pad Player was discovered to be worthless.

Hyperkin will be releasing garbage hardware and I think they know this.

In fairness, Tofu hasn't posted since the start of the holiday weekend. I think that's kinda understandable, especially since there wouldn't be much news to report back on anyway.

I guess there's reason to be pessimistic based on the Twin Pad, but I'm reluctant to trash a product before its been released. It can't hurt to wait and see what the end result is like. I think a lot of its potential imperfections are going to be forgiven based on the fact that there simply isn't another portable Genesis solution out there (at least not in North America, and that features a cartridge slot).

Wow, that's pretty harsh.

I haven't vanished but I am focusing my attention on the upcoming E3 show and will not post in any FCM2 review threads because I want to hear what consumers say about our products without injecting my own opinions.

The AtGames stuff seems to have a pretty bad reputation and I wish I knew more about Sega stuff or did my own research about Sega clones. It sounds as if we would have been better off making our own unlicensed hardware considering the reputation of AtGames.

Hey tofu, don't worry about Diosoth. He turned out to be a troll and has been banned. Best of luck on the portable Genesis. If it is half as good as the FCmobile 2, I will be more than impressed!

I am always happy when a new "retro" game or system is released. I see it as a way for companies(or individuals) to give back to the gaming community. I also will wait to post my review of the product(portable Genesis) until it actually comes out and I have personally played it!!!

One of my reviewers, the same guy that reviewed the original FC Mobile, has reviewed the FCMobile 2. I can't publish the entire review because it will appear in our next issue out in July.

But I can tell you it is a positive review. Anyone on the fence should go out and buy one... NOW!

Thanks,
