For the Pokemon players out there, Toys R Us has two new Pokemon events going on in February and March, respectively, in which you can download a Legendary.
First up is Shaymin, at Level 50, who will be available from Feb. 8-14, along with a poster and a $5 off coupon (for any Pokemon DS game).
Then in March is Regigigas, at a massive Level 100, which can be downloaded from March 8 to the 21st. No word on if you'll get any extra goodies like Shaymin.
Both Pokemon are capable of opening up new areas in the upcoming Pokemon Platinum.

Let's see, after the last one I personally destroyed something like 500 of those stupid posters that no one wanted.

All the true Slammurai...I mean...Pokefans always go to the events at Molco...I mean, TRU.
I'm glad that they're doing these TRU events instead of the limited ones where you could get it in like five places in the US on two days out of the year.
Thanks for posting about the events; I'll have to get my hands on some of these. Oddly enough, though, I haven't played Pokemon in probably...a year. Too many other great DS games around.

A reminder that Regigas will be available for download until the 21st! You'll need this Pokemon if you want to capture the RegiIce/Steel/Rock in Platinum. I've heard that the stores will be giving out coupons and stickers, but there was none of that at my store, so YMMV.
The last time they gave out Darkrai down here they did it in 3 cities down in the south so only a few people got them, which pisses me off. Why can't the TRU chains do it here I wonder :B. I wish someone could get me one of those buggers, now that I have wi-fi working and all.

The Secret Key, which is used to alter the "forme" of Rotom in Pokemon Platinum, will be available at TRU from April 19 to April 26. It will also be available via Wi-Fi from April 20 to May 12, which hopefully will lead the way in allowing actual Pokemon to be downloaded via Wi-Fi in the future. Also of note is that you can share the key's Wonder Card with up to five other Platinum players who did not get the download themselves...
Arceus will probably show up late this summer or early fall, and we might possibly see the "Shiny" Pichu eventually as well.

The Member Card, which can be used to access a new area and obtain Darkrai in Pokemon Platinum, will be available via Nintendo Wi-Fi connection starting August 3rd and ending September 13th.

Is there a particular place you need to use the Wi-fi Connection to get the event goodies, or can this be done from anywhere?

No, you can connect from any place where you normally get your Wi-fi connection.

If you haven't yet, you can log onto WiFi connection until Nov. 9th and obtain Oak's Letter in your copy of Platinum. It allows you to access an area where you can capture Shaymin.
Next up is another TRU event, this time giving away a Lv. 100 Arceus, from Nov. 7 thru Nov. 15. You can use a copy of Diamond, Pearl or Platinum. If you trade this Arceus to the upcoming Gold/Silver remakes, it will allow you to access an area within the Ruins of Alph where you can capture a Dialgia, Palkia or a Giratina.

Just a reminder that the Arceus distribution started today. When I went to download mine, there were no signs up, but I was still able to pick up the download signal.
You can change Arceus's type by using the various "plates" found within the game (Meadow Plate, Splash Plate, etc.) as well as change the type of its "Judgement" attack.

Okay, I went to THREE TRU's today and they all failed me. Two were regular TRU's and both said that their 'systems were down' after I couldn't pick up the signal and asked them about it. I also went to a TRU Holiday Express which had no idea what I was talking about. Don't go to the Holiday Expresses. This is really annoying because I go back to school tomorrow and now probably won't be able to get an Arceus.

Yes, ZERO promotional signage was routed out for this download. The only information about it was in the form of an internal e-mail sent to top of the chain management (and quickly touched upon in some conference calls). From what I've gathered (and the TRU gig is job 3 of 3, four days a week) it's because they don't want to take up floor space with a sign fixture for the download + they don't want yet another promotion on top of the Big Book. Crazy, I know.

"System is down" is a defacto response for "Nintendo rep didn't come in and change out the card yet." Try connecting to the download station feed for game demos, if that's down as well then their source DS is more than likely turned off or set to a bad channel. (or the card has been stolen, that's why the internal security for these events is so anal) If that connects then they don't have the download event card. I've had my rep accidentally turn off the source DS (old DS fat) twice after changing out the card - which is a pain in the ass to turn back on since the key is in the safe.

Really? They felt it was too much trouble to tape up a poster somewhere? Geez. What's the damn point of the distribution anyway, if people don't know about it? Makes me wonder why Nintendo simply doesn't start using WFC to distribute Pokemon the same way they've been distributing Oak's Letter and Secret Key...

I was busy, so I ended up not going to the event. From what the local TRU manager told me, not many people showed up for this one.

I wish I had known ahead of time this was happening; I was in the area of the nearest TRU this past Sunday, but I had no knowledge of this event nor did I have my DS with me. Maybe a return trip is in call if they still have the event going?

I don't follow Pokemon much but my son was climbing the walls for this one a couple days ahead of time, insisting we had to pitch a tent outside TRU Friday night, etc . Come Saturday I said "let's go" and we had no trouble at all getting the download.

Another new Pokemon event happening at the end of this month, this time at Gamestop. You can pick up a Shiny Pichu, which when traded to the upcoming HeartGold / SoulSilver, will open up a new area that will allow you to capture a Notch-Eared Pichu.
Distribution begins January 30 and ends February 14.

This weekend is your last chance to pick up Pichu!
And in a couple of weeks, starting on the 27th, you'll have a chance to download a level 5 Jirachi, which can be traded to HeartGold/SoulSilver to unlock a Pokewalker course. Distribution ends on March 14th (which happens to be the release date of HeartGold/SoulSilver).

If you missed out on the shiny Pichu, you'll get a second chance to get one. You can download one directly from Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection until March 26th.

EDIT: Apparently this is the same Pichu as the Gamestop promotion, so if you've already downloaded it before, you aren't allowed to download a second one.
