Where did you get that Sonic 1? I'm intensely curious because the used copy I bought from a gamestop in '98 was the only (other) one I've ever seen with that label. I've posted to other sites' forums about it too and I always just thought I had a pirate copy or something... Nobody so far has been able to tell me what the deal with this label variant has been. Was it just an extremely limited version release or canadian or something?

Yeah now that I see it, I've seen the USA version before. Never around here though. Does the catridge itself look the same or was that different too?
