Is there a way to defrag the 360 hard drive? Or is it even necessary? Some searches on google find some cache clear code but that's not a defrag.

I'm not one of those freaks that defrag my PC every week, I know the effects of it. But with all the files downloaded and deleted on my 360 drive over its life I imagine it's pretty fragmented.

the cache on the hard drive (where the games store their data while loading) gets wiped every time you pop in a new game, so fragmentation isn't really an issue that will impact performance.

The only way to defragment would be to copy all of your data off, wipe the drive, then copy it back using one of those 3rd party hard drive copiers.

It's not something that will have any impact on the system's performance though

When i read this topic title, i was pretty much like... "What?! Why?" Unless you're experiencing difficulties, I have a feeling your 360 won't suffer much of a performance hit for a looooong time. If you are, you could always format. *shrug*

I notice my game library gets longer and longer to load with time, and friends who have upgraded to larger drives have said the transfer worked like a good defrag in that it helped the speed of loading up the list. I think it might help with that, and it would be a nice option to have either way.
