Hey guys,
Just have a quick question to anyone out there with experience using the gamecube gameboy player.
Right now i have it hooked up using s-video cables, which looks ok... but i would like to know if the picture looks noticeably better using the official expensive component cables in 480p progessive mode?
does anyone on here have personal experience using the gameboy player in progressive mode? i'd love to hear what you have to say.
I just really want to know if it's worth getting a $60 component cable for my gameboy collection :)

The color might be a bit better, but given the low resolution of GBA games, I don't think it'll look much sharper, especially given the video filtering.

I once tried switching between 480i and 480p playing the GBP on my projector. At 80", I could barely tell the difference.
So yeah, in my experience colors do have more "pop" when playing the GBP through component cables, but the image is still a tad soft, even in progressive mode. There is an improvement in stepping up to component, but it's fairly minor, and probably not worth $60 IMHO. Unfortunately the filtering applied by the GBP prevents the image from looking as sharp as an actual GBA screen.
I REALLY hate it when retro game compilations, certain emulators, the GBP, etc smooth out the graphics of low-res 2D games automatically. I want my pixels sharp and clean, dammit! But what can you do...

An image that's intended for a 2" screen is going to look a bit less than impressive when blown up to 50". I really doubt you'd see any big difference in quality between the two at least nothing to justify $60 cables. if these http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/speaker-cables/7250-speaker-cables-turn-you-into-a-dancin-fool-302478.php don't seem like a good deal to you I'd skip the component cables. as for the filtering options I'm disappointed it doesn't give you a few smoother filters, guess I'm just spoiled by emulators.

I did this when I bought my 60" TV in 2006. I bought a Gamecube GB player and hunted down a component cable, then laughed like mad at playing GBA. I mean, at least they're both widescreen right? :D
Wasn't worth the $50 for the cables, but hey at least I got a story out of it.

OKAY, so the way it works is this:
GBP + Component Cables + 32" or smaller TV = \m/
GBP + With any connection + Larger than 32" TV = /m\
Get it?

GBA games look real sharp on my PSP in the gpSP-Kai emulator with the progressive interlace and screen filtering options turned on. They might look better if you play them on your tv with a PSP 2000 & component cables.

They look ok but not as good as super nintendo games do through svideo.

...especially on LCD TV's. Exactly what I was going to post.
