A bunch of people at work (myself included) got e-mails saying our Mega Man 9 Press Boxes have shipped, and we are being charged.

Anyone know anything about this? It'll be cool to actually get it, but it seems really shady to be charging our cards out of the blue 4 months later without confirming first.

edit: I can't find any info on the Capcom-Unity blog, where they initially announced all the press kit stuff.

The short story is this:

Back in October, Capcom decided to produce a small number (approx. 200) of the kick ass Mega Man 9 Press Kit that was sent out to members of the press for the purpose of selling them to the general public since the reaction to the item was so positive. The problem was that once they put the product up for sale on the website, the entire allocation was sold within 4 minutes. But Capcom didn't take down the listing for another 15 minutes and so during that time they sold far more copies than they had available. For the last few months they've been systematically making and shipping handfuls at a time. It wasn't until a couple days ago that they finally produced and shipped out the last of the orders.

ok, that explains a lot, thanks. It would have been nice if we got a slight warning or something, it's been quite a few months since I placed the order, and they might have overcharged the account tied to the purchase if I wasn't careful. In fact, the account they charged is going away soon, so they might have charged something that did not exist.

Mine (apparently) shipped sometime a week or two ago, I have yet to recieve the item, since I am in Canada they will not give me a tracking # so... yeah, not sure when I'll get it, but apparently it's coming.

I wonder how many are out there now though...

If the first 200 sold out in 4 minutes, that's 50 a minute. If they continued to sell at the same rate, that's 950 total. I would guess they kept selling faster and faster, because more people find out. After I placed my order that went through (but was too late), I let 4 or 5 other people in on the secret, and they all put in orders, as well.

I actually asked on Capcom-Unity what the total number is, including the ones given out to the press and kept by Capcom employees. If I get an answer we'll know.

I got my e-mail January 23rd and got my press kit the 26th or so. Like some others have said, it was kind of nauseating considering they were selling (or at least getting bid on) for sometimes over $1000 back in October and in the last couple of days when I checked, all auctions were under $200. I placed my order at 5:06 PM (according to the confirmation e-mail) and the press kit didn't even appear in the online store until 5:03 or 5:04 so they definitely didn't fill these in the order that the orders came in.

That's what bothered me so much about it at the time - I had three or four windows open and refreshing every couple of seconds at different pages of the store and as soon as the press kit showed up I had the paypal plugin auto-fill most of the details and placed my order, while apparently many other people were still refreshing the front page for several minutes afterward. Then I waited and waited for weeks then months, still with no word from Capcom. Oh well, it's here now and I guess it'll just sit on my shelf indefinitely. I can live in peace again.
