Upon the release of IV, there will be a 'Championship Mode' available for download completely free.
There will also be extra costume packs available for 320 M$ Points/$3.99 on PSN -
02/17/09 -- Brawler Pack will include alternate costumes for: Zangief, E.Honda, Rufus, El Fuerte and Abel.
02/24/09 -- Femme Fatale Pack will include alternate costumes for: Chun-Li, Cammy, Sakura, Rose and C.Viper.
03/03/09 -- Shoryuken Pack will include alternate costumes for: Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Gouken and Dan.
03/10/09 -- Shadowloo Pack will include alternate costumes for: Seth, M.Bison, Sagat, Balrog and Vega.
03/17/09 -- Classic Pack will include alternate costumes for: Guile, Dhalsim, Fei-Long, Blanka and Gen.
Although apparently there will be compilation pack of all the costumes released for a discounted price at some point after 17th March. Now, I normally wouldn't shell out on stuff like this, but seriously, check out Chun Li and Cammy's new outfits....

I was hoping that the DLC would be additional outfits and that the costumes you've posted are the outfits you unlock in game...either way I'll probably buy and unlock them all anyway.

I'm sorry but it pisses me off when they release DLC the day of a game release. Why not just include it in the game? I am already spending $60 plus tax.

cause why include it when they can charge a poor sucker 4 bucks just to have a character wear different clothes

The compilation pack is due out in April. For something like 1000 MS points.

Nickle and dime bullshit. I've already paid $59.99 + tax. Buying these things only encourages more of this crap. I don't even want to think about what they're going to do with RE5 DLC.

A.) These costumes better not be available to the arcade version.
B.) I'm not buying it anyway. :p
$60 plus $20 for costumes?? Blow.

They are in the arcade, but you have to blow a ton of money to get them, since to buy them you have to spend in-game money you earn by playing matches.
Plus compilation pack comes out in april for what, like 12 bucks?

Exactly. This content is NOT ESSENTIAL. It is for fans who want different costumes, that is all. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY IT. I don't want to hear people complaining about having to pay money for something that Capcom didn't even need to make, they are doing it for fans and people who want different than normal costumes. For 1000 MS points, I'd gladly purchase the full pack in April.

Why not just include it on the $60.00 disc? It's because they want to nickel and dime their fans on top of getting top dollar for their games.

Because it is not necessary to have on the actual disc, and is non-essential to gameplay. Like I said. It is not necessary to download this. But Is it really that big of a deal to download something?

Yeah but the point is that they already have this content created. The only reason that it's not included on the disc is so that they can charge extra for it. I understand that it's not necessary for gameplay, but I feel that that's irrelevant.
This is an example of DLC gone wrong. This isn't breathing new life into an older game by releasing extra episodes, this is charging more for shit that should be included in the game.
Does anyone know, is any of this extra DLC going to be included on the CE version?

I believe there is some sort of DLC included with the CE, but I have no idea what it is. Maybe just some extra costumes that are CE exclusive?

It most likely is already on the disc, actually. Lots of developers have pulled crap like this with games this gen.

I liked it better when you could, you know, unlock extra costumes as a reward for beating games or doing various challenges in them. Now they're just a reward for having $4. It's not as fun.

If this game had come out last generation, this stuff would have been on the actual game disk. But with the advent of XBLA and PSN, Capcom can now rip us off for stuff that should be unlockables in the game itself.
Again, WHY IS THIS NOT ON THE GAME DISK ITSELF?

True.
This stuff is completely unrelated to game play. It's fluff. Superfluous. Unnecessary. Meaning of course that you don't need to buy it to be competitive. It's like Sackboy costumes. Purely aesthetic.

I'm pretty sure that there's still plenty of stuff to unlock already included on the disc.
Oh yeah: and why isn't this stuff on the disc? Because Capcom likes money, like any other business. I could understand the hate if they were selling modes or access to special characters, but they're not. They're selling paper doll clothing. Note also that the completely FREE day-and-date DLC, the 'championship pack' or whatever, is pretty expansive.
I call 'whiners' on this one.

That's the one I absolutely do not understand one bit. Why is that mode not included on the disc? I mean, it's a free download - so I'm not going to complain - no harm, no foul - but I just don't understand that decision.
As for the "it's extra, you don't need to buy it if you don't want to" argument, I have the following comment:
Dead or Alive Ultimate for the original xbox has a ton of unlockable costumes. It takes forever to get them all and is a fun challenge. The costumes were created for the game and included on the disc. That's how it should be done. You're paying a full price for a full game. With SFIV, we're still having to pay a full price, but we're only getting part of the game. The rest of the game has to be bought.
Now, I'd have no problem with that if the disc portion of the game was cheaper. You're only getting a portion of the game, so you only pay a portion of the price. If you want to pick and choose the rest of it, you can and pay a bit here and a bit there. But that's not what's happening here, we're getting dinged twice.

Well, yeah, we are getting dinged twice: if we choose to pay for unessential, non-game play oriented content. As I stated previously, I don't care at all about developers charging for crap that doesn't effect the game. I understand that it's aggravating to some people, but it honestly doesn't matter in the end one way or the other. Buy it if you want to, or don't if you feel you're being shafted. Either way, the game is the same.
And no we aren't only getting 'part of the game': we're getting a comprehensive, thoroughly tested and balanced triple A fighting game with a huge number of interesting and challenging modes, both online and offline, single player and muliplayer, right out of the box. That doesn't change if you don't download a coat for Cammy.
As for why it's not on the disc, I'd bet it's a combination of the console version of the game having 'gone gold' months ago and therefore Capcom being unable to include the 'Championship Mode' on the disc without pushing the release date back, and pure capitalist initiative on the part of Capcom. Of course people are going to buy these things, even if they bitch while doing it. We gamers are idiots like that.

No offense Coldb33r, but I call bullshit on this one. Even if the game was twenty five dollars, people would freak out about the day one DLC. We gamers are also idiots about that.
I think what Capcom is guilty of in this case is poor timing. If they'd waited a month before making the pay DLC available, there wouldn't be a thread about people getting screwed by Capcom. There'd be a thread about how awesome Capcom is at supporting their game.

Is there a costume that removes the leprosy from Cammy's thighs? That chick needs to see a doctor.
As for Chun Li, Lei Fang called... she wants her dress back.

To me this is no big deal. Capcom had to put money into it to get the costumes developed and looking good so why shouldn't they charge money for it. I'd rather pay $60 and then choose to not pay $20 on the costumes than to have to spend $80 on the game with the costumes. If it were for the ending of the game or a VS mode then I'd have a problem with that since that is a vital part of the game.

Well, I can't speak for others, but if they did adopt a smaller base price and openly explain that they're going to make up the extra on DLC, I'd be cool with it. That would solve my concern about getting dinged twice. Others may complain, but I leave that to them.

Yupp, this is unquestionably true. If they waited a few months, people wouldn't get the impression they're getting screwed. But the way they're doing it, it's damn clear that they could have included it on the retail disc but chose not to.
