I don't know about overclocking but I could make your N64 output RGB. PM me if interested. Honestly though, most games on the N64 have very low resolution polygons and tons of blending effects, everything looks like a fuzzy mess no matter what the output. In other words, it won't look much better in RGB than it does in S-Video.

Well for RGB I would need to have a tv that supports it and i don't think i do. My tv has s-video, component and HDMI but isn't RGB a European output?

no it isn't just a european format

also, it outputs s-video natively, just get a gamecube cable that does it, or you could get a scart-compone tconverter on eBay for about 60ish after shipping, that will only do video, stereo sound would have to be tapped out by some other means

RGB for any system looks better. I have my n64 rgb modded and it looks great! I have a Mitsubishi 37" CRT monitor that supports 15khz/31khz so I have my NES, SNES, N64, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis 2/32x, PSone, PS2, PC Engine Duo-R, and Atari Jaguar connected to it as well as my Gamecube (via Vdigi VD-Z3 component to VGA transcoder) and Dreamcast connected via VGA to it. Getting a suitable RGB monitor can be tricky though.
Maybe someone on the gamesx forum could help you out. I believe N64 also has some sort of digital audio output mod.

RGB is the same as saying Component Cable....you know, the cables that are Red / Green / Blue + Red / White for audio.
That is a US cable, and if you TV had HDMI, then it has Component.
SCART is the European equivalent.

actually that is not true,
rgb uses a seperate sync signal
component mixes the colors over the red and blue cables and has the sync signal over the green (hence the Y, Pr, Pb designations)
Also, component is relatively new compared to that of RGB
SCART is just a designation of a 21 pin video connector, it can actually transfer, composite, s-video, RGB, component or in some more rare instances VGA, it also carries stereo audio

RGB has a higher color bandwidth than component video, they are NOT the same.

Exactly, which is why I choose to use my monitor which supports 15khz and 31khz. Sure, I could opt to go component, but pure RGB is better in quality. I think many may believe component is better or the same as pure RGB because component is much more common (especially in the USA).

that is debatable, while it does portray a better palette of colors, it does not eachthe resolutions that many associate with component. Simply put, it would be better if one would program a higher resolution in RGB vs component, but in practice it just doesn't happen, which in my humble is stupid.
The problem is that people think too much for the "Rgiht now" vs the later down the road. what I mean by this is that people see the price tag on a good monitor that supports RGB and go runningto a cheap emerson that only has an Rf input, never considering the true difference
but nothing can come from recognizing the faults of the past forty years
