View Full Version : Problem installing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for PS3
Just got the game, new, for my PS3 which I also just bought. When I first put the game in, it said something about it must be installed on the HD, yada yada. So of course I clicked ok. After a slow installation, about at the halfway point, the installation bar is now moving very slightly back and forth (why it's moving back is beyond my knowledge). After 15 minutes, no change. I cancled installation and it happened again, this time before the halfway point. What can be the problem? Anyone have anything like this happen to them before, or am I unique? I formatted the HD just to be safe, and it's stuck back at the halfway point. Please help!

I didn't have that problem... Have you cleaned the disc, or checked for scratches or smudges? If it keeps happening, and it isn't foreign matter or an imperfection on the disc, I'd say you have a bad burn on your hands. Take it back to the store and exchange it, good sir.
Also, if you have another game that requires an install, such as Devil May Cry 4 or GTA 4, see if they'll go all the way. If they do, it's the disc. If they encounter the same problem, it's a call to Sony for you.

Well, that's the only game I have so far (PS3, it plays PS2 and PS3 fine). It isn't scratched at all, it's brand new. At first I thought it was a HD problem, but everything I've downloaded from the PS store (including a huge 900 mb demo of RE5), installed fine on the HD. I will return it in the afternoon. I really hope it's just the game. :(

Why the hell didn't you get a 360 instead? Now I can't kill you onlineLOL Just kidding. As for your dilemma, I sometimes have to install update disc to PS3's and 360's at Best Buy as part of my job. So far I've only had to do one update for the PS3 but I ended up doing it twice. Why? Because, for some crazy reason, if you accidentally pressed any buttoms(even the ones on the guitar instruments) it would stop the download and you'd have to completely start all over. I hope all PS3's aren't like that. But thats the only problem I ran into(it was a stated 30 minute download from disc to hard drive) and the second time I didn't touch anything or let any customers near it until it was finished. Hopefully your disc is the problem and not your PS3.

I encountered a similar problem when I first got my 80gb PS3; it wouldn't install the game I'd bought (which was Ratchet and Clank). I tried a few times and eventually had to call to PS3 customer services.
The solution was to download 1gb (or more) of files first. The person from the helpline suggested downloading demos or burning CDs to the hard drive. Sure enough, after I'd downloaded a few demos the game installed just fine. Aparently this can be a compatibility issues with some games made before the 80gb PS3 was released.
Hope that helps.

Hi to all:
I'm having just the same problem with the Gran Turismo Prologe, but i think worse :? becase the progress bar reaches hardly the quarter of the total. Please if you found how to solve it post it, it would be really helpfull.
Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine actually has a problem similar to that. If he downloads a demo or anything at the PSN store, it works fine, but if it's any sort of update or anything like that for a game, it'll start loading, and then it'll sometimes just completely stop. If it stops at, for example, 52%, then it won't ever move any higher. He has to quit and then try to restart the game. Eventually it'll go without stopping.
I haven't had a problem with my PS3 though. All updates load perfectly. Both of us own a 60GB PS3.
But yeah. I thought it was just his PS3 and told him to reformat, maybe that'd fix the problem. He doesn't want to do that so don't know if it actually will fix the problem, but eh, whatever. I'd say if it keeps doing it attempt to reformat your PS3 first. Just copy everything you want to keep onto your PC and then format, then test it out.
