The DP Random Game Generator of Fatal Intent (tm) has chosen Mortal Kombat 4 today. Specifically, it chose the N64 version, but this discussion is open to the game in general.

So what did you think of Midway's first attempt at making Mortal Kombat a 3D game? The game wasn't well-received by many but it did have its supporters. How does it stack up against other Mortal Kombat titles? Against other 3D fighting games? Who are your favorite characters? What are your favorite moves? Write your own mini-review here.

DP Guide sez:

I was really dissapointed by this and noticed it was bearly being played at my arcade. Not like the crowds of people who would gather around MK2 and even MK3. Sad way to end a series. 3D FIGHTERS SUCK! :D

The game may have sucked, but it still has the greatest fatality ever. I don't remember who did it, but he ripped off his opponents leg and beat him down with it. Priceless.... :D

I think that was Quan Chi. The one thing of some interest in MK4 is that they actually managed to make a jump kick work in 3D, though I guess it's argued it's playing on a 2D plane and such......

I HATED MK4. I hated it so much I thought about tattooing how much I hated it on my pooper. I think it was definately one of the worst 3D fighters I've ever played. The controls were nowhere near the controls of the former titles (not just comparing 2D to 3D), the models were downright ugly in my opinion, and it just was not fun to sit (or stand) and play. I'd rather humiliate myself playing the accordion willingly in front of any hard rock band for 10 years than spend another minute playing that game.

Do I have what it takes to review games for a living or what? :D

I remember the "good ol' days" when me and my friends would have matches where we could only use that "knee-breaker-kick" move.

Good times. :)

Isn't Mortal Kombat kinda like those horror movies that churn out far too many sequels? This game is like "Psycho 4" -- what's the point, really? This was just a lousy attempt to make a 3D fighter when Sega and Namco had already cornered the market.

For my two cents, MK2 was the only decent game in the series.

I *ahem* kind of enjoyed it for a little while. The endings just had some mystic crappy charm to them that kept me playing for..well....two days. Then I realised how cheap Goro was, got annoyed and never really looked back. Still, I dig it out once in a while to watch those astounding endings.
