Hello. I've just recently tried to repair the belt in the Famicom Disk System.
I've done that already, tried to load the game, and now I get ERROR 22.
I've looked around various websites, and most of them say that it's the belt timing that's off, and I would have to tune the motor little by little with a small screwdriver to finally get it working. How would I identify the motor, and how do I tune it? Thanks in advance!

Error 22 seems to be usually caused by a bad disk, rather than the system itself.

Try another disk, and if that doesn't work, adjust the motor speed. You can't miss the motor, it has tons of warnings and bold font on it if I remember. Just take a little screwdriver and adjust it with the system on, and move it until the disk boots.

I actually only have one disk, it was purchased along with the system. I'll try that out, though. Hopefully that will work. Also, does the disk spin at all when trying to read? Thanks again!

Yes, the disk should spin when it is reading. If it doesn't that would better indicate a cause for the game not working (i.e. broken belt, motor is out, etc.)

I'll strongly suggest, before jumping into any other conclusion and moving things around the drive, for you to get at least a couple more games from a reliable source....Adjusting the drive head can also be a bit tricky after replacing the belt and you need to make sure that any wires or switches are in the proper places...

The disk doesn't spin at all. I've tried to adjust the motor, but it moves a bit slow. The only time it sped up a little bit, was while I was turning the screw.
I really don't know what the problem is now. I wish I had another disk, but I'm starting to think it's the drive. Thanks for putting up with this, everybody.

I would advise you not doing anything further until you can test it with another disk.

Quick questions...How are you powering your FDS?...with batteries or power supply?.....Rechargable/ alkaline batteries?...Official or compatible power supply?..,,The drive motor actually takes the more juice out of the actual system....

I'm using the official power supply. As I've said before, the disk does not spin, and the metal piece that spins the disk, is loose and comes off very easily. Aside from the disk not spinning, is that piece supposed to come off like that?

No, it should not be loose...
..
One more thing, adjusting the motor potentiometer while the motor is actually going, is not a wise/safe thing to do and this can potentially kill it....

I'm guessing you didn't have the setscrew on the disk spindle tightened? I've noticed that having that oriented incorrectly is usually the problem. I had to play around with mine a bit but after getting it set right I get like 2 second load times. You get efficient at disassembling / reassembling these drives when tuning them. LOL
