I dont know if this should go in modern gaming or here
Is there anything worth importing(non us releases mind you) from Europe and to a lesser extent Japan?

Well, I dunno much about Europe, but the first thing which comes to mind about imports from japan is the Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan series. We got Elite Beat Agents, they got that and two others. Check it out! Great series.
EDIT: Also, I would have dropped it into Import-Mania! as well.

There's Jump: SuperStars and Jump: Ultimate Stars if you like anime. I've never played it but basically from what i can tell the game is like Super Smash Bros but with anime and manga characters.

The Osu! Tatake! Ouendan games (there are two) are both fantastic and are among my favorite games for DS. Jump Super Stars and Jump Ultimate Stars also good but I would go with one or the other, probably Ultimate Stars as it made lots of improvements. If you like platforming I would look into importing Densetsu no Stafi 4 or any of the earlier Stafy games for GBA. And two more for the music genre; Daigasso Band Brothers is pretty good and has a nice selection of music, and either Taiko no Tatsujin DS (Taiko Master) is just fantastic.

If you are even remotely into zelda, then Freshly Picked - Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland is a must. your friends may make fun of you for owning it but the game is excellent.

Well I think anyone that has played chou soujuu mecha (supercontrol robo MG) would agree that it might just be the best ds game (import or otherwise) that no one has heard of. It usually costs no more that 25.00 on ebay (and often less). Look at the youtube trailer. It's 80-90% playable without knowing any japanese, beautiful 3D polygon graphics (like primitive N64). Unique interface, 120 transformable robots, big environments, and more fun than I can adequately make clear.

Although it won't be released for another month or so (UK), I'm thinking about getting Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Mummy. After having finished Professor Layton I find myself craving a good puzzle-adventure game and I'm hoping Sherlock Holmes will be worth importing. AFAIK it doesn't have a US release date
