Hmmm, I dig the C1 ads, but think the "DP commerical" is the weakest of the bunch. No offense to you, Joe, but I was expecting a lot more. Oh well, at least it's a win for you.

Done.

Sorry Joe but that's a fail.

I agree with RCM, that was pretty weak. They could have done so much more. But that isn't Joe's fault, it just turns out that this is the direction they wanted to take with the commercial. Definitely not the worst commercial I've seen(that would be Quizno's sock puppets) but I wish they would have expanded the video game theme more. Anyway, congrats Joe.

@otoko: that's awesome. When he said GIF I probably should have figured "animated GIF". Yep, fail.

Very cool to see how they fit all that into the front of the store. Though I agree seems like this was a real editing crunch. I wonder if there is a longer version airing as well?

No worries, it's cool to see all of this.

Congrats on a successful commercial! Any update yet on when you can share behind the scenes pics and other info you had mentioned?

Mike seems to have some fascination with that particular one :)

Why whatever do you mean?

But I want to know... Was that a woman on the right, and is that a guitar or a BASS in her hands?!

EDIT: Oh, and funny thing... I was on TV almost a week ago, a "man on the street" interview about credit cards, coincidentally enough. Look around 1:28 on this video (http://www.myfoxchicago.com/dpp/news/credit_cards_apr09). (On TV, they actually gave the names, but not on the web, hmm...)

Definitely a girl with a bass guitar. She had more "face time" in the shoot as well, but really got clipped out of the commercial in the final product. I really hope there's a long version out there somewhere!

Nice commercial Joe hope you had a blast with it, it was quite interesting to watch.

Couldn't hurt to ask if they could send you some early cuts. Worst that happens is they say no.

If they stripped the place down to the slatwall and the center island, what was the benefit to them in picking the DP Store as opposed to renting some empty retail-ready space for a few days? They wouldn't have needed to move everything before and afterwards.

I understand if the DP Store atmosphere inspired them, but I would have guessed they'd take the idea and recreate it somewhere ... though I'm glad they went with the real deal, of course.

Hey, now I see it. I was thinking it was the game the guy was buying and wondering how you guys could read that. I guess I'm not as observant as I thought.

Don't sweat it. I was actually specifically looking for it so that explains why it caught my eye.

I thought I had explained this before but I could be mistaken.

Two major factors in this store's structure: the central island (allowing them to swing a camera around 360-degrees, and high ceilings with skylights (to drop down the MTV and Capital One signs you see in the commercial).

They didn't really "strip the store down", either. They removed everything from the front of the store. The back 2/3 was left completely intact.

It'd be really neat if they had a full length version that played before movies at the movie theatre.

Well, it wasn't completely intact. They took down most of the wall posters and the neon Nintendo sign on the back wall.

All they really did was replace posters with other posters and a neon sign with a different neon sign. Look at the animated GIF file above... you can't tell WHAT is on those posters in the back of the store and you wouldn't be able to tell if they had changed them or not unless you were there :). In the commercial, these shots of the store don't look any different to me, other than the various lighting effects.

That's all good! Me likey!

Too bad you couldn't keep those flashing white lights under the main counter, that would have been cool.

First thing that got me was how they covered the big hole above the counter where the big tv is :)

I've already blocked those horrid memories out of my system. Stop trying to bring the pain back:(

Edit: Their new commercials featuring man-on-oven sex is just as disturbing, but for completely different reasons.

Ah, makes me want to put out another issue of Slap-Dash...

And definitely worthy, Russ :) Sucks that you can't really see her face in the ad.

So, tell me you took pictures for me. Scott? SCOTT?!?!

I might add Russ, that this is not only a girl on a bass guitar, but an attractive one, and better still... THERE ARE FIREWORKS SHOOTING OUT OF THE GUITAR.

This actually happened to me when I bought an Xbox in the DP store.

Now I am afraid to go there.

I go to buy a game from Joe's Store and it turns into a rave.

Only happens when you buy a Wii or SNES Chrono Trigger. I heard a rumor there's flashing lights if you buy Earthbound also. :P

I wonder what would happen to the lucky person who purchases an NWC cart from Joe's store. I'm guessing a group of employees would serenade them with paper cranes, skittles and hand puppets thanking them for their new employee bonuses. Or maybe just more rave music.

judging from the commercial, Joe's store is pretty insane. He is claiming all those lights and rave music were installed by the commercial people, but I know the truth, they were always there.

Very cool they did a commercial there! I haven't seen the commercial air on TV yet though but when it does I'll tell everyone where it was filmed.
