I went to my local used game store last night and purchased a PSX on a whim. When I got home and opened it up there was a game disc inside. Have any of you ever had that happen before? I plan on taking the game back later today so it doesn't screw up the stores inventory.

Peace,
Dan

It's entirely possible that store never opened the system either, and the disc has been in there since the original owner sold it.

Happens often with me. I used to try taking stuff back but never had to return it as the store would always tell me to keep it as they didnt have it in their system to begin with. Your not doing them any favors either. It's not stealing if they were too lazy to bother checking the system when they bought it.

happened to me twice. once with a sega cd game, and once with a movie dvd. (both sucked). it was at flea markets i think, maybe garage sale, so i never bothered bringing em back.

what game did you get? i say keep it unless it sucks AND you visit the store often.

Two things come to mind when this happens:
1) Does the unit actually work as it may not have been tested?
2) Was it their testing disc they forgot to take back out?

Either way enjoy it as a freebie, whatever it may be.

Did you sell the one disc or hold onto it?

I kept the disc, i still have a couple of copies missing the disc 1 so i was really happy to found that disk inside the system :D

Its not a disc based system, but I have bought several NES's with games inside that I forgot to check. Got several free games (Castle of Dragon and a couple of Super Mario Bros) from it.

I have also bought a couple of VCR's with VHS tapes inside, but couldn't see what they were before buying since it required power to eject the tape. I found Air Bud and an unlabeled tape.

yeah, you see this happen alot with VCRs. or rather, you used to back when I wasn't the only one to still use a VCR.

I saw it with a Sega Saturn at a Salvation Army Store. Had Mortal Kombat 3 in it. But I didn't get it because I didn't have that much cash on me at the time.

I remeber finding puzzle fighter 2, bratz(something something) in used psx systems at thrift stores, in a dreamcast i found ready to rumble boxing, and in a segacd model 1 I found the 4 in 1 disk. whenever I see a cd based system at those places I always check inside, sometimes the game inside is worth more then the asking price of the bare bones system (partly why i bothered to buy a few of those psx systems)

Yeah I found a copy of SMB2 in an NES I found at the Salvation Army.
Think I brought it back?

It has happened to me a few times. I bought an NES which had Rampart in it. More recently I picked up a DVD player at a church bazaar for $2 which had a copy of 'Knocked Up' in it. Then I bought a DVD/VHS combo unit which came with a Pilates DVD and some workout VHS tape in it.

I just remembered, one time me and my dad were having a garage sale and I had to sell my old stereo unit. Well, there was an Elton John CD we were listening to, and when a dude came to buy it, I forgot to take it out. Oh well, I am not a EJ fan so it didn't bother me.

Holy cow yes.

When I first got my PS1, Need for Speed 4 was inside.

Score.

My PC Engine Duo R came with The Addams Family (US) inside.

My 3DO came with a copy of Family Feud.

It is so shitty that I wish it didn't :)

This has only happened to me once, but in a slightly different way. My Sophia came with a MegaCD-R in it. Though it wasn't a game, but rather a duck disc.

That happens to me all the time with disc systems. Countless PS1s but they've always come with other games anyway. And my 3DO had a game inside as well. I think I've gotten a free game from a Sega CD as well.

My 3DO came with Way of the Warrior inside. I wanted the store to give me a refund ;)

Happens all the time. Is used to cover up a missing or thrashed laser eye every now and then as well - always check beneath before buying.

Everytime this happens to me it's always a shitty game. My Dreamcast came with a fishing game and my 3DO came with Crash & Burn. Can a get a good game sometime? I mean, seriously.

I salvaged a CD-ROM drive once from a dead computer that had a CD-R copy of Moby's "Play" inside it. I'm quite pleased that happened; it's a rather good album, and I might not have given Moby a second thought otherwise.

I hate it when I disconnect a CD-ROM drive without taking the CD out first. Of course, I know about the paper-clip trick now, but for the longest time I didn't realize how it worked. (You're actually supposed to pull the tray out yourself after you release the catch!)

The game in my PSX was NFL Gameday 03', I tried to give it back but they said just to keep it. Now I am stuck with it and I don't know if I will play it or not. Oh well....its still free.

Peace,
Dan

Of course they want you to keep it, they know no one wants to buy six year old sports games for the PSX. Maybe it's some kind of new promotion, they give away the crappy games they can't sell for free in the console when you buy it.

My only instance of this happening was quake 3 arena in a dreamcast. i asked if i could just have the game since they didnt even know it was in there and they said sure. of course now i dont have a proper case for it which makes me mental, but hey, free game

Yes. I bought an NES with tetris in it.
And when I bought a MIN sega saturn, there was an extra controller in the box, a demo disc, and a copy of daytona.

I bought an Xbox at Gamestop that has a disc inside. The fact I can't remember what game it was, though, must mean it wasn't a noteworthy title.

My brother bought a tower for his comp. that was only in need of a new hard drive. The cd drive was empty but someone forgot their 3.5 in the floppy port. Had some weird poetry and some horrible porn pics, the floppy was titled "HoMe WoRk". Great way to vent/masturbate their feelings out, while hiding it from their mom, genius!

I picked up a working PS one on the side of the road with a Tekken disc in it. Other than that, I don't usually find much. Side of the road shopping is great, unfortunately with the way the economy is right now, the pickings are gettin' a little leaner.

I purchased a "brand new" DVD player at Fry's Electronics back in the late 90s, and found a copy of The Matrix in it. Unfortunately, I had already purchased The Matrix and was using my PC's DVD-ROM drive to watch movies before then.

Still, it was kind of amusing. But just further reinforces how lax Fry's Electronics is with returns, and even properly checking them before putting them back out on the floor as "new".

I bought a copy of Panzer Dragoon from a local "Used Everything" store and it came with a Tennis HuCard tucked inside of the PD manual.....:)

When my friend bought her 3DO it had a copy of Lucienne's Quest inside. She didn't even know what she had at first.

This was my favorite thing about working in a computer shop years ago. Customers would often abandon or give away their computers and leave the CDs or DVDs in the drives. I built up a decent music collection at work over the course of 2-3 years this way. XD

I had this happen with a few VCR's, usually finding a kids' tape inside, nothing watchable though.

Happens to me all the time with NES or PSX systems.

I have found the following games stuck inside of used systems.......

NES:
-Mike Tyson's Punch Out (I freaking RAN to the counter with that NES)
-Ninja Gaiden (I jogged to the counter with this NES)
-Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt
-Mario/Duck Hunt/Track Meet
-Super Mario Bros. 2
-Super Mario 3 (yep the trifecta)

PLAYSTATION:
-Some Army Men game
-One of the ECW Wrestling games
-Some Jeremy McGrath Motorcross game
-a near mint Resident Evil Director's Cut disc (I ran to the counter with that PS1)
-Madden 2002

This doesn't include a gem of a Goodwill find in which I picked up a 99 cent Gameboy Color carrying case only to find loose carts of Pokemon Silver and Link's Awakening DX buried DEEP in a mostly concealed pocket. Neither of them were tagged and I slowly realized that they probably never checked the case that extensively before putting it out. Sweeeeeet! :)

There was someone on this thread who said he would sometimes put an NES cart in the system before buying the system, which is somewhere between LOL and :shameful:

I completely forgot this when I made my post above but you reminded me........

I saw some douchebag get busted in a pawn shop for taking a Playstation 1 game out of its case and slipping it into a system, thinking nobody was looking, then putting the case back. Little did he know there was a camera in the store and the tv it would broadcast over to was right in plain sight of the owner (and any observant customers).

Worst of all, he got his ass thrown out of there over something idiotic like Dukes of Hazzard 2, which was the game he tried to steal. The dude was in his early 20's and apparently didn't want to pay 6 bucks for a game with his system.

It never happened to me but one thing comes in my mind... when you're seeking for a complete collection it's kinda crap... I always feel bad when I have some thing's loose I feel like there's a stain in my collection or like something's not right... I've even made a custom box for my SMB/Duck Hunt cart!

I left a game disc in a computer once. A little off-topic but here's the story if you're interested:
