how do you use an SNES Game Genie?

I've got an NES one that I've used on multiple occasions and it works great. But I have a Game Genie for SNES that I can't seem to figure out. The codes are pretty easy to find on Game Genie.com, but I'm not sure how to put them in and get it all to work.

you put the genie in the snes then the game on top of it, make sure the effect switch on the front is up (if its down the menu doesn't show up) the code screen should pop up before the game starts (unless your genie is broken or dirty) just put the codes in and enjoy

if you flip the switch on the front during gameplay you can turn the codes on and off (usefull in some situations)

Yeah, that switch was really throwing me off, cause the NES doesn't have one.
