For some reason I was thinking about dead DLC earlier today, and the Dreamcast has a lot of DLC that is very difficult to get at nowadays.
Anyone have a list of what DLC was made available for the platform, in what regions?
I think I still have all of the Sonic Adventure 2 DLC on a memory card somewhere, the alternate costumes for holidays.

I believe that Sonic Adventure had some downloadable content that changed Station Square. It added christmas decor I believe.

Did they ever put DLC codes in the game covers?

Wow, I've never heard of that.
A VMU with the DLC on it must be hard to find, and I haven't seen any of it.

THIS is why when they re-release a game with DLC (or expansions not initially released with the first run) packaged with it I re-buy them as well. Eventually the online services will cease and the content gets lost...

Samba De Amigo had some downloadable files that unlocked extra songs.
With the Dreamcast, all you have to do is go online and download the save files to you VMU (or get those discs with thousands of saved games). Problem solved.

Discs with thousands of saved games?
I've always wanted that extra content for "Dynamite Cop".

Slightly off topic but I was actually wondering this same thing about Xbox dlc. Now I'm also wondering about PS2 dlc. Because once it's gone--it's gone. I'd like to see a complete list of Dreamcast dlc too.
Human released several DLC items for Fire Pro Wrestling that were not in the retail game.

Yeah, those discs with thousands of savegames usually include most or maybe all of the downloadable stuff... which means that you don't even need your DC online to get them anymore, you just need to copy them to a VMU from the CD. :)
A decent number of games had downloads available. The only negative is that they take up VMU blocks, and VMUs are really, really small and fill up quickly. :(

I heard that 'Skies of Arcadia' had another island or something that you could download, too. Man, I would love to get ahold of that content...

Jet Grind Radio had some tags you could download and insert into the game, IIRC.

Jet Grind Radio has the ability to download any JPG off the internet (of appropriate size) and use it as a tag. It also had its own site where you could upload any tags you made with the in-game custom tag creator and download other people's. It was also one of the first console games to have online rankings.

Wow, I didn't remember the leaderboard. Of course, this was released at a time when broadband internet was somewhat of a luxury for a college sophomore, so I never had the ability to really take my DC online.
It kind of warms my heart to know it was the first to have online rankings because I loved that game so much (don't have it anymore...long story :( need to nab it again). I think it was the first game I ever saw with cell-shading, too. It blew my mind at the time. I always felt it was somewhat underappreciated.

I think you have it backwards. The Dreamcast had a built-in 56k modem, and the broadband adapters were hard to find, expensive, and did not work with every game.

Yeah, there's a few CD images out there that contain hundreds if not thousands of saved games with unlocked content on them. High scores, new characters, saved paths, so on and so forth.
I'm not sure if this is allowed here so I can't link to them. Sorry. (Hey mods, any input?)

I'm obviously not a mod, but I don't see why that would be against the rules. It's not like they're actual games, and even GameFAQs has links to saved games and such.

I'd think that the problem is that the sites they're found on are often sites with Dreamcast game ISOs for download...

It would be helpful to know what the VMU savegame discs are called.
I could find them on my own.

The one I have is simply called the "VMU Backup CD"... or (DC) VMU Backup CD - version 1.3.0 (self-boot), more completely. Its got a huge archive of save files and downloadable content files you can copy to your VMUs. Its one flaw is that while it has a VMU minigame emulator, you can simply play the VMU minigames on the disc with it; you cannot play your minigames on your cards and cannot save your progress in those games. To play your VMU minigames on the television and save your progress, you'll need this next tool...
Another essential tool (iso) is the Dreamcast VMU Explorer. It lets you unlock the 40 hidden blocks in every VMU (yes, 40 blocks of the save space are hidden, for purposes unknown but never used... you can unlock them with this. :)), among other useful things. I don't know if I'd unlock the extra blocks on third-party X4 cards, but on anything first-party, it's a great help... and it also lets you play the VMU minigames that are on your cards on the Dreamcast without needing to have batteries in your VMU, too. :)

I'll have a look for that iso.
I'm familiar with Dreamcast VMU Explorer, since it's included with TDC Final 2.
It's a pretty nifty piece of software.
I've unlocked the extra blocks in all of my VMUs and memory cards, and haven't run into any compatibility problems yet.
Unfortunately, the defrag utility seems to have a bug or two. It ruined my CVS2 and CVSpro saves today (hence my desire for the game save disc), so I would advise backing up any VMU that you want to defrag, if it contains anything important.

I think I got the Floigan Brothers DLC in my 4x Sega VMU still.

Just a word of warning about those VMU file CDs - do NOT use a third party memory card or the official 4x memory card with them. Only use legit Sega ones.
One of those things kept freezing on me because I had a third party card inserted in my pad. I took it out and replaced it with a legit one, and boom, no more problems.
If you want to save files to a third party card, then save them to a VMU first, and then use the DC's memory card manager to copy or move the files there.

Fire Pro Wrestling D had downloadable content.
