I really want to buy one for those goofy games where you can use the stylus. What other games do you guys recommend? Honestly, you can recommend any game as long as it's good. I was even thinking about getting Nintendogs o_O

All I know is that notable games to me were a Dragon Quest game, Final Fantasy Tactics A-2, some Castlevania game...

Two games that do pretty much nothing but demo the touch-screen/microphone, and also happen to be pretty fun (IMO):
Feel the Magic XY/XX
WarioWare Touched

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia - awesome (with the GBA and DS games you can play 6 CV games on this system and they're all good!)

Picross (addictive as HELL)

Chrono Trigger DS (no explanation needed)

Final Fantasy games (with GBA games included and remakes you can play 1-6 as well as spinoffs)

Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (port of the original with some updates)

the list is pretty long. not to mention all the great GBA games there are out there.

Buy it!!

DONT BUY IT!

There are not enough games on it.

All Nintendo Games are sub par.

It might fail as a system, stick with the GBA.

Castlevania seems to be a popular game...

Also, the games don't need to involve the stylus/touch screen. I just want to know the good games on DS.

Get one! Here's a few excellent games that haven't been mentioned:

-Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
-Geometry Wars: Galaxies
-Kirby: Canvas Curse (a Kirby game that makes excellent use of the stylus)
-Kirby Squeak Squad (a more conventional Kirby platformer, almost as good as Canvas Curse)
-Meteos (avoid the Disney version, the unlockables SUCK)
-Metroid Prime Pinball
-Nanostray 1 & 2
-New Super Mario Bros.
-Sonic Rush (especially worth a look if you liked the Sonic Advance series)

And if you're interested in non-kart racers, Need For Speed Carbon, both Asphalt games, and Juiced 2 are worth a look. I've also heard good things about GRID, but haven't played it yet.

Castlevania seems to be a popular game...

And rightly so. If you liked Symphony of the Night and/or any of the GBA games, the DS Castlevanias are highly recommended.

I know I ask this every time, but why do we always get these "I don't have system X, please convince me to buy system X" threads from newbs all the time?

Well, if the troll had been talking about the Wii instead of the DS, maybe...but...

All good recommendations here, and I would highlight and add a few:

The World Ends With You is, quite possibly and in my opinion, the best Square game to come out in the last tne years; probably the last five for sure. They've had other good games, but this one is truly great.

The Pokemon games are decent and are worth checking out; I stopped playing 'em, however, and haven't had the motivation to pick them back up.

I myself like the Lost in Blue series - very interesting controls with the stylus and whatnot for surviving on a desert island.

The New Super Mario Bros. is a quality sequel, IMO. Clearly a send-up to the old-school games, although the difficulty isn't quite as severe.

The only game I've gotten that I believe I can say I haven't really enjoyed is Metroid Prime Hunters. I just don't think the DS has a good control scheme for a FPS...they needed one more button on one side of the console to be able to have a jump button that you don't need two hands for.

Obvious troll is obvious.

Perhaps sarcasm isn't as obvious though eh?

And yeah, get a DS. If you can't find at least ten games that interest you then frankly there is something wrong with your gaming tastes.

Well for the sake of this thread I fixed his post

Besides the long list I posted earlier I forgot about these

Magical Starsign
Professor Layton and The Curious Village

Plus in the coming months there's quite a few more note worthy games coming out Feb-May

and there's this master list of DS releases save 2-3 games

If you want to be convinced to buy a DS...

BUY ONE. Seriously, you cannot go wrong with this system. There is literally something for everyone here. You're bound to find some good stuff in these threads mentioned.

I have actually convinced at least 4 people to buy them and they all are very happy. I didn't even need to say much. They just saw how much ultra-awesome-fun I was having with it and wanted in. Seriously, just BUY IT! My favorite system since the PS1 and favorite handheld ever.

It sounds like you already want to get one. Why ask us to convince you, when it is apparent you already want to get it? What would have been a better is if you asked what are some of the better games on the system.

My faves are:
Chrono Trigger
Puzzle Quest
Nanostray
Tetris (Good luck finding one)
New Super Mario Bros

In addition to everything else already listed, Dragon Quest V will be in stores on Wednesday with Dragon Quest VI to follow later this year, those two games alone warrant a look, especially for fans of the series, as this is their first official release outside of Japan.

Because I only know a select few games, and it's important for me to know I'm buying a system for more than a couple games. Not to mention I really don't know that many games on the DS.

None of my friends have a DS. You fail.

And for the person who asked what kind of games I like, I can honestly say I can get into any game that is deemed by many as a good game.

Dude, the DS has an insane amount of good games. This is pretty common knowledge at this point. It's getting better third-party support than virtually any system on the market, handheld or not.

I have bought more games for the DS than any modern console I own, and it is not a factor of cost.

If you are on DP it obviously for a love of retrogaming and the style of play those games offer. That style of gameplay is a large portion of the DS.

To Get you started:
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
MarioKart DS
New Super Mario Brothers
Contra 4
Super Princess Peach

Kirby Canvas Curse is great if you are curious about the stylus control.

RetroGame Challenge is the newwest one I am into.

If you like collections The Konami Arcade Collection is one of the best put together collections I have ever seen.

Tetris DS is a very solid and fun Tetris that you could put far too many hours into if puzzle games are your thing.

Seriously, it is one of the easiest consoles to choose to buy. It does have something for everyone.

everyone can find something to like, but is there enough something to justify a purchase? that's the question, and it depends on nirvana's tastes. myself, i can count on one hand the ds games i'm interested in, with a thumb to spare (not counting nes or snes re-releases).

I was trying to be sarcastic. I own 2 DS's and Ive got to say they are the most played system in my home. Games are all great, homebrew apps are great. Frankly, i think it combines the best of all the older Nintendo systems into one awesome machine.

Now the PSP, there's a machine that insists upon itself...

Update

So I finally bought a DS. I bought the Crimson Black DS Lite, because it matches my phone (Samsung Rant).

I couldn't buy any games with it, since I couldn't afford it. However, my friend let me borrow Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. I'm lovin it so far. I picked the sisters and I'm just hackin away with my stylus. Good stuff. This is definitely the thread to refer to when I need games.

I bought one a couple weeks ago, the same color as yours, and I love it. The best thing about it is that I can play it on my couch with the TV on in the background. It's also a new vein for my RPG collecting. Honestly, I was about to finish my PS2 list except for the Gust games, which don't really excite me, but the DS has tons of great little RPGs to pick up.

When you pick up some games I'd strongly recommend getting Retrogame Challenge. I just bought this a couple of days ago and the first few minutes put a big nostalgic smile on my face. I've also played all the way through Mazes of Fate, which I would recommend if you like old-school dungeon crawlers. And the Dragon Quest remakes seem to be worth getting, I've really enjoyed Dragon Quest IV so far.

-Phantasy Star Zero(import, us release later)

- Locke's Quest
- Pokemon Platinum
- Tetris DS
- Meteos
- Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

- Retro Game Challenge
- Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure
- Space Invaders Extreme

For me buying a DS is still a great thing especially the DS Lite(just for the GBA support in it which is removed on the upcoming DSi)..
