At every Classic Gaming Expo, the game designers and hardware gurus who were there on the ground floor of the video game industry tell their stories - how they started their careers, implemented their ground-breaking ideas, and ultimately created a multi-billion dollar industry. They are the pioneering programmers who built legendary machines such as the Atari 2600 and Intellivision, and created timeless favorites such as Pitfall! and Pong.

Now, for the first time, an entire Classic Gaming Expo show has been professionally filmed and edited - Every keynote presentation! Every minute of the legendary CGE Auction! Even the invitation-only alumni dinner! Plus DVD-ROM bonus features let you browse through the entire history of CGE.

Pre-orders are being taken here (http://www.thelogbook.com/media/cge/); first discs ship toward the end of February.

Two things real quick:

1. Also feel free to give a shout-out to stonic, who is the "executive producer" on this project, who wrangled bonus features together (which are actually pretty cool) and is handling duplication, to the show organizers for giving me an all-access pass so I could all over the place sweating and swearing (nothing unusual about that, except that this time I had cameras in hand), and to Arcade Antics for the cool cover artwork, which is also the basis of the DVD menus. That doesn't even count the folks who helped out with digging through their files to provide us with stuff that appears on disc 4 as bonus features. This has been a BIG project, probably too big for any one of us to have handled alone, and you don't just say "Hey, I'm gonna go film every keynote at CGE and make a DVD set" in a vacuum. I think I'd still be sweating and swearing if I was going this one alone. LOL

2. I've had to bump the international price up slightly, which probably isn't a biggie, but the biggie here is that Canada has been moved over to the "international" category. A couple of international orders have already been placed and we will honor those as they stand. Sorry for any inconvenience or confusion; this one is purely my fault - as usual, I've been running on adrenaline and fumes getting everything together after being dad all day, and I misunderstood something along the way. This is not a bait-and-switch, just me having my wires crossed regarding the weight of the item (four times as many discs as a PDF DVD, in a larger/heavier case than a PDF DVD) and the shipping charges. The corrected prices are now being displayed on the site.

Also why was I not the cover artist? would you not rather have a pencil depiction of German machine gunners?

Nah, I figured that was strong enough to be its own release. LOL

Hooray, my DVDs arrived, time to relive the auction LOL

Unfortunately the case was half destroyed in the mail (thankfully the inlay and DVDs themselves survived untouched!)... anyone know where I can buy a replacement from?

Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up, since I've gotten a PM and an e-mail or two about it...

I am aware that theLogBook.com was hacked wthin the last two weeks, and I have restored the site to its pre-hacked state. I've also locked the site down to prevent further vandalism; my hosting service and the appropriate authorities are aware of the situation.

I find it odd that, of all the static HTML pages remaining on the site, the three pages devoted to ordering the CGE and PDF DVDs alone were "altered," but as I said, the proper authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation, IP logs are being reviewed, and so on. This is a "loss of income" situation for me, so I'm treating it very seriously.

In the meantime, the site's back in business, and it's safe to place orders again. The ordering pages are as follows:

PDF Level 2 / PDF Brown Box (Vol. 1 & 2) (http://www.thelogbook.com/phosphor/level-2-dvd/)
Classic Gaming Expo 2K7 (http://www.thelogbook.com/media/cge/)
Phosphor Dot Fossils Vol. 1 (http://www.thelogbook.com/phosphor/pdf-dvd/)

Thanks for your patience - the coast is clear!

The site has now been moved to a completely different host, which seems to have solved all the misery right there. Funny how that works, eh? Everything is now non-broken and in fact some improvements have been made. The menu system for Phosphor Dot Fossils (the site) has been upgraded to something that's much handier to use than the humongous skyscraper-o'-categories sidebar.

As for Phosphor Dot Fossils: the DVDs? There's a little bit of a summer special on those - you can pick up a bundle with either the CGE 4-disc set and PDF Level 2 or the PDF Brown Box, all for one ridiculously low price that saves you a heap on shipping. And here's the really wacky part: the prices are the same inside and outside the U.S. for once. Check here for the details (http://demographia.blogspot.com/2009/07/globatcom-consumer-warning.html) - and get in the door fast, since that pricing won't last forever because I need to eat and stuff. :-P
