We all know bootleg games have some pretty strange labels... but what ones have you seen that take the cake?

My favorite has to be my copy of T.M.N.T. ... sunglasses and strange weapons FTW! And since when do turtles tunnel underground?? lol

Wow, that one is just... wow. I don't even know if there are words to describe exactly how bizarre that is.

I really love the fact that instead of being in NYC they are standing next to an erupting volcano.

This is the label for "Super Irmãos" ("super brothers in portuguese", a brazilian SMB clone:

A quite interesting interpretation of the Mushroom Kingdom, IMO - specially the badass looking turtle behind "Mario".

Pretty sure I have one of those ^ in the pile. Most of my Brazillian Mario clones say Super Mário "mayrio"?

There are lots of cool labels 'round here, because the brazilian government allowed national companies to produce and sell famiclones and games. Therefore, there are lots of name and label variations for the same game - for example, Gradiente (IIRC) called their Megaman games "Megarockman". The art for those titles is pretty cool, by the way - I'll post pics here if I find any.

EDIT: Megarockman 3, in all its glory:

also "super wonderful mario" but i can't find the particular one i'm thinking of. not the one with mario in a star in the centre that you'll probably find on google, i seem to remember this one had a goat on it.

I'm not sure about label art, but I have seen knock offs of video game characters(mostly Sonic).

I used to have a boxed Supervision NES Castlevania in my old collection, it had some pretty goofy art of random NES and anime characters in group shots (sorry for the big scans):

Are there like, any bootlegs beyond the 16B era?

I don't recall seeing any for the PS. Ever.

I saw one on the Dreamcast at a flea market- "Who wants to be a Sexy Millionaire?" IIRC. Had a cartoonish drawing of a guy with eyeballs busting out of his head staring at some huge knockers.

The "Zellers" games on the 2600 had some hilarious label art. My favourite is Challenge:

Here's the label. So... this is a pirate of Ghostbusters right?

http://www.atariage.com/2600/carts/c_Challenge_front.jpg

And here's the game itself. What the fuck? I control a duck?

http://www.atariage.com/2600/screenshots/s_Challenge_3.png

The rest of the Zellers labels are also pretty funny, though most of them at least have something on the label that relates them to the game itself.

Here's another good one, Earth Attack. Yet another hilarious attempt at an all-in-one label that could be for basically anything:

The Famicom pirates on this site are pretty crazy.
http://www.gamesniped.com/2008/02/27/more-insane-famicom-pirates/

I can't find a picture of it, but there was a Famicom pirate of Batman that had weird label art. The art looked like it was from Castlevania, there was a castle in the background with a full moon(at night), and lots of bats flying around. I'll try to find a picture of it.

I only have a couple bootleg games, but this BY FAR is the most interesting of the game labels.

Yes. His skin is green. Yes. It is Superman. Yes. The game is The Flash. No. I have no idea what is written above the word Flash.

So there really are next to no boots for the advanced systems, hmm?

Most likely due to the, well, complexity of the games.

Arasoi

It has more to do with the fact that newer systems use optical mediums, and with a mod chip and a CD or DVD burner you can burn and play your own copies.

Thanks :) . I really thought there was a castle on it, but I was wrong. That's definitely the label I was thinking of.

There are bootleg DS games, as well as multicarts. I've seen them for sale, though it would be better to get a flash cart compared to a multicart.

I've seen bootlegs for the PS2, and I assume that there's more for current systems too(I haven't been to flea markets or other places that would have these for a few years). Cart bootlegs are more interesting than disk ones, and at EB Games the odd fake Advance game can show up(priced the same as real copies).

Bought a bootleg cart of Tom and jerry on the Game Boy sometime last year at a Gamestop, with some run of the mill blurry art and Tom and Jerry 2 on the label. They probably just thought it was a foreign game or something.

These are all great. I applaud the pirateers who actually designed their own labels, rather than just printing blurry versions of the original artwork.

I like how the card just says "Game" If you are going all the way with the fake Nintendo "seal of quality" why not put the entire word "Gameboy" on the cart?

Very humorous!

Yeah, thanks. ^^;

Both of those look very familiar, I must have come across both of them at different times. I don't really keep Famicom pirates anymore, I had a bunch I found a couple of years ago(briefly) but sold them all off. I get confused a bit easily.

I've seen a pirate Gameboy Color game that had both Zelda Oracle games on it, I only saw it on the internet though.

Well, my comment was really geared towards console titles.

Especially CD based.

DS/Gameboy and such are handhelds, and still use the cartridge medium.

Hmm, wonder if that just makes them easier targets.
