I will be sending my 360 back to Microsoft because of the infamous Red Ring issue. I want to know if I should keep my faceplate. It is a normal white faceplate, but hopefully I will get a free one. I'd like to at least get one free item for my trouble.

What are you gonna do with it?

I guess you didn't pay attention to the service tech's when you talked to them on the phone. You take off the faceplate and hard drive before you send in the unit. It'll also tell you that on the instructions that come with the coffin box if you did your processing online and never talked to anyone over the phone.
My first unit I got back without a faceplate (so I put my original one back on) but this last unit I got just before Xmas came with a faceplate so now theres an extra.

The only reason they ask you to remove the faceplate is that they assume you have a unique one and want it back. It's a relic policy from when they used to actually send back the exact same unit you sent them.
I've removed the faceplate each time I've sent a 360 in. Each time the 360 arrived back with a new one. In essence, I now have 2 extra white and 1 extra black faceplates.

Ok, thanks. Later I might decide to paint the extra or something. Otherwise it is pretty useless.
