There are many more games out on Apple ][ than there are on the other two 8-bitters, EG magazine claims by 1985 there were over 16.000 titles (not all were games softs though)...good hunting:

I see "Hard Hat Mac" in that magazine.

I think back to those prime //c using years and remember that hardly any of the games/programs we had was actually bought in stores. :-D

There are literally tons of Apple II exclusives. I got my first Apple II in 1980 and pretty much used it exclusively until 1987 when I got a Commodore 64. My favorite games for the Apple II include Captain Goodnight, Rings of Saturn, Phantoms 5, Sea Dragon (not quite an exclusive, but I believe the Apple version is the only one that talks), any of the Origin/Sierra On-line games like Ultima, Autoduel, etc...(again, not exclusives, but the loading time on the Apple II was much better than any other system at the time), and Rescue Raiders. There are so many more that I just can't think of them now.

Black's Magic was great - it was an exclusive too.

Conan the Barbarian springs to mind. Some people like In Search of the Most Amazing Thing. Of course there's all the MECC titles, if you're into those. And maybe Robot Odyssey? (Technically that had a PC version.)

from the top 50 rpg list
Wizards Crown (Apple 2)

from the top 100 games of all time list (well not exclusive but maybe worth checking out)
Lode Runner (C64, Apple II, others)
Ultima IV (Apple II/C64/PC)

Never played any of those, only Choplifter and umm Oregon Trail (also not exclusive)

Tass Times in Tonetown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tass_Times_in_Tonetown). The IIe version is fine (and the one I used to play in my younger days) but the IIgs version is far superior graphically. My favorite game of the platform.

after searching wizards crown and black' magic both seem to have a bunch of ports to other systems though

tass times looks pretty fun.

Oh, and Spare Change: the simulation of dealing with obnoxious arcade patrons!

I've never actually seen a retail piece of IIc or IIgs software in my life, and my elementary school had an exclusive deal with them.

I also had a friend who owned a IIc.

Kind of shocking, now that I think about it.

WOW, it's been a while since I've seen this thread. Thanks Necromancer. "Rise from your gwave!"

P.S. If anyone sees my Apple II thread in Classic Computer Gaming, I still need answers to burning questions......

Yeah, I've been trying to find some info on this. Basically looking for any reason to get an Apple II, and I'm not finding many reasons to so far (i.e. better ports elsewhere).

Bolo (inspired by Keith Laumer's books).

A great tank/maze game for the Apple II, and one that I keep coming back to.

It really took off on the Macintosh.

Apparently there were two games called "Bolo". One on the Apple II in 1982 and another that showed up later. From what I've read, they're by different programmers.

Choplifter though not exclusive is a must for the Apple II. Played with the analog stick, hovering the helicopter feels very real.

Bilestoad is a very good overhead explore game and attacking other "meatlings". Controlling the sword and shield arms separately in a slow draw. The field has transporter discs as in Star Trek and with the complicated keyboard controls is really different. Many have not heard of this game, I think it was inspired by the Cinematronics Vector Arcade game Warrior.

Wow! That game looks AWESOME (and yes, very much like Warrior).

This page has some great highlights -- including Aztec.

almost forgot about Aquatron, cool game inspired by Defender and Star Blazer, it reminds me of both. You can travel both in space/air and under water ;)
