Favorite Super Mario Bros. 3 Suit

It has been voiced by many as the greatest 'Mario' game, and the one of the greatest platformers ever created. Super Mario Bros. 3 is always an entertaining gaming experience no matter when I play it, or how I play it. The best thing to me about the game are the suits that Mario and Luigi change into upon grabbing certain items. Some fly, some swim, and some even have armor plating!

Of all the nifty little suits Mario and Luigi have in Super Mario Bros. 3, which is your favorite?

The Hammer Brother's suit simply because it was so scarce in the NES version, I never understood why the game designers made certain aspects of the game to be 'rare'. Like Kuribo's Shoe being in one level total.

Anyway, the range of those hammers was better than that of the fireflower.. nothing like a little revenge mixed in with irony when fighting other Hammer Brothers.

this is a close fight for me between Kuribo's Shoe and Frog Suit, jumping around with the frog suit looks so funny :) but the idea of running around in a shoe is even better ;) and mario looks great in the shoe, so i voted for shoe

btw this is the first time i heard the english names for the suits, i only knew the german ones until now :p

I like the Racoon suit the best just because of the awe I was in when Mario took off and flew for the first time. Needless to say I was running all over the place trying to get enough speed for some more air. The frog suit is kinda cool too.

Tanooki suit, all the way. It always seemed like the enigma suit; very few in the game, and no one has anything bad to say about it. Swing your tail, get stoned and do it all over again!

Whenever I play Mario 3, the high point of the game is when I get Tanooki Mario. It just looks so cool. Next would probably be the boot. :D

The coolest thing about SMB3 on SMB All-Stars is being able to save an inventory with plenty of P-Wings, Tanooki and Hammer Brothers suits.

I pick hammer suit because of it's armor, cool black color, and rarity in the game.

You also have to admit that it hurts more when you have a hammer thrown at you than when you're hit with a fluffy racoon tail.

Go Tanooki...I remember that being the only reason I would play sometimes. Just warp to world 5 with my whistles and get stoned (well, make Mario get stoned :)

My favorite suit is Hammer Brothers though, because the hammers let you kill almost everything in the game -- even Thwomps and ghosts. Too bad they don't work against the discs.

BTW, has anyone found a way to kill Jalectro -- the electrified jellyfish block thing on some underwater levels? It seems to be the only truly invincible enemy in SMB3.

It's also worth pointing out that a raccoon and a tanuki (tanooki) are NOT the same animal.

My vote is for the Takooni suit, I just love the way it looks! Don't ask me who, it's just pretty damn cool. I never even used the stone statue move either...I'm more of a "run through the level" type of person...that's probably why stealth levels in games annoy me so much.

Mario Adventure, a recent SMB3 hack, makes agressive use of Kuribo's Shoe. Unfortunately, it also changes the Tanuki and Hammer Bros suits into things which aren't nearly as much fun. (And the levels are freakin' ridiculously hard.)

I study zoology in my spare time, and judging from what I've read about tanukis, I'd have to say that they're an evolutionary bridge between dogs and raccoons. Although technically canines, tanukis have a lot of characteristics normally associated with raccoons, including the black mask around the eyes and a tendency to hibernate through the winter. Tanukis are the ONLY members of the dog family which do this.

The only thing I haven't been able to figure out is why the Japanese often depict tanukis with enormous... er, nether regions. O_O
