Check out this Gamasutra article (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=22318) about a company that bought millions of Atari games, kept them sealed inside a limestone cave, and then sold them online for $5 each for the past few years.

Yep, O'shea's has been around for quite awhile.

I bought games from them when they were something like $0.80/piece. I saw an ad or story for the games at an even lower price, but when I got there, it was the higher price, as the source was outdated. But it was an ok deal none the less.

There's an Atari movie coming out with Leonardo DiCaprio?

What he said?!

Also, I'll have to check this out, although I'm not terribly interested in the six games mentioned so far.

An Atari movie?

A movie based on the company, or a movie based on an Atari game?

or a movie based on an Atari game?
Gee, we haven't had anything like that before.

The first choice is the only one that makes sense to me. Docu-drama...

It's true. An Atari (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/825441/leonardo_dicaprio_to_play_founder_of.html) movie is being made. Leo is playing Atari founder Nolan Bushnell.

Wow, does he have any copies of ET 2 that have never been seen by the naked eye since they will blind any person who looks at the box?

Not a bad place to pick up some commons, or start a cheap 7800 collection. I too remember when they were cheaper, but nice to see sealed atari stuff being still sold for cheap. The stuff is cheap now and wont be around forever, so if you are looking for some cheap common sealed atari stuff, look no further.

And here I was thinking they're all rotting away in some landfill, haha.

That could be cool, but only if it's "based on a true story" instead of it being a documentary.

Nolan Bushnell has magical powers, he can travel to another world where everything is like several video games but it's all like real life. This is where he gets all the ideas for his games, and he learns he's "The Chosen One" which is why he was given this ability. He's needed to fight a giant evil being that's trying to take over the magical land to turn it into a giant principal's office where fun isn't allowed and everyone has to clean the toilets daily. Nolan challenges this being to a Pong like game that's played in real life, and defeats the evil being which forces him to give up and leave. After everything gets turned back to normal Nolan can return to his home world, but he has to give up his powers as he's no longer needed in that other world. Once he returns, he starts making games based on what he experienced from his travels, and this is how he started Atari.

Sounds awesome to me. LOL

Osheas was big news on the internet maybe a 12 years or so ago :p Although his prices sure have gone up.. $5 is like a 500% increase from what he used to sell them at.

I would think a good number of people from these boards remember the standard ebay auctions you'd always see with some dork trying to sell off his own recently acquired inventory of sealed Oshea games LOL

The real question is who is being cast as the Atari programmers? Steve Jobs, Ed Logg etc. I'm hoping for Christopher Walken or David Carradine as Ralph Baer.

I got my first classic games from O'Shea back in the late 90's back when they were much, much cheaper than 5 dollars. I always wondered where all that inventory was coming from. I think I also bought an Atari, Pac-Man, and Yar's Revenge t-shirt from them as well.

O'yeah, O'Shea...I think I bought a few Jag titles off of them back in `99 or so. I ordered them over the phone and the person I spoke to seemed rather annoyed that I was only ordering a few individual titles instead of, say, five thousand all at once. In fact, iirc the last time I looked at their website (years ago), they had upped the minimum purchase order to something like twelve units, or maybe even fifty. Whatever minimum the number was, it was clearly not aimed at the collector so much as it was the bulk reseller. In an effort to expedite cleaning out their cave, I guess they've gone back to onesie-twosie orders.
