View Full Version : yellow-tinted picture from my Genesis

I bought a used, very cheap Sega Genesis for $5 today. I had to buy separate cables elsewhere. Problem seems to be that the picture has a yellowish tint to it, at least through the RF cable. At first I though the old NES RF I'd bought was bad so I returned it. Later on I hit another store, bought a cheap 32X and a Genesis 2 type RF out for cheap. Still getting the yellowed picture. Both through the 32X and when I used the Gen1-Gen2 32X cable to link this RF to the console itself(meaning through the 8-pin DIN out).

So what's the deal? Bad RF interference from something in my house, or is the system itself going bad? And if so is this something I can fix? The seller had tested the system before selling it to me and he has no problems, or was his claim.

do any of your other consoles have a yellow picture when hooked up through the rf?

I wouldn't have any ability to test. My Gamecube and XBox run through s-video and the Retro Duo by s-video and composite.

It could be the TV, can you hook up anything else to it like a VCR to test it out?

Don't even own a VCR.

I did open the system and saw no damage anywhere, but I didn't lift the motherboard out and check the bottom yet.

Lifted out the motherboard. Just standard dust and old lacquer spots from the factory solder. No damage.

The yellow picture is limited to the Genesis. The 32X I bought works fine, but only for the 32X side.

Questions....

-Do you have both of the Sega Official Power supplies or compatible ones when connecting the systems?

-Is your TV set a CRT, plasma, LCD, SDTV, HDTV?...

-Have you tested this setup in another TV?

You should get a Genesis AV cable instead...
