Someone on another forum I'm on found some carts at a local thrift store, only nobody there knows what system it's for. I thought I'd post some pics here to help find out(I'm curious too). He only bought one but there were a whole bunch there with different writting and part numbers on them, all had the same graphics on the label though. Any help would be great.

Looks like it could be an SG-1000 cart.

I'll post a couple more pictures. As you can see they all have the same looking label, but they each have different text and part numbers. I'm really hoping someone is able to read what's on them(even just to have a game title). Thanks for everything so far. :)

They are Korean Sega Master System games, they use the same cart format as Japan. They don't appear to be Samsung licensed, (samsung made and disributed sega consoles and games in Korea) so I expect the carts contain unlicensed korean developed games or more likely msx hacks.

Uh, that's not Korean on those labels...

Don't know about the games, but the magazine in the third photo is Nintendo Power!

Damn straight it's not. That's Chinese. :) The Korean language doesn't use such complex ideograms.

yea my guess was going to that they're sg-1000 carts. If they are indeed sg-1000 carts and they're cheap id say buy them all up for ebay fodder as sg-1000 carts are hard to come by period. It was the biggest problem when i was trying to win an sg-100 on ebay that i could hardly find any games for the damned thing. For your reference a picture of an sg-1000 cart: http://www.smspower.org/misc/sg1000_test_cart_01.jpg

I have nothing useful to add - I'm not much an expert on import games, other than a handful of Famicom carts in my collection, so I'll defer to the knowledge of others - but that's pretty cool label art. The figure kind of reminds me of the cover of Microsurgeon on Intellivision.

They were $4.99 plus tax each, I wouldn't really call that cheap. All loose Genesis games are that price too, except for a loose Sonic and Knuckles which was $5.99. As I said, I didn't buy the cart, someone else on another forum I'm also on did. I did see some of those carts left as it's in the Thrift near me(I rarely go there anymore), but most are already sold. I'm passing all the info from this thread onto him, I'm hoping it'll be found helpful. Thanks for all the responses so far, I'm still hoping someone can translate what's on the carts, even what's on the front picture would be nice. :)

well for an idea of the rarity of sg-1000 games. There is only ONE on all of ebay and when i was looking at getting an sg-1000 that was one more than i could find at the time ;)

I would have picked up at least one cart, myself. Even if I didn't know what machine they were for, it's still a fun little adventure to find out what kind of console it can play on. It's always nice to have one unidentified cartridge in your collection, just to keep you interested. To keep you hunting down that elusive oddball machine that it might plug into.

I wish I could see that kind of thing at thrifts!

Anybody know for sure if the text is Chinese or Japanese?

Finding games in the Greater Toronto area is still pretty good. The prices have gone up in the thrift shops though, games used to be $1.99-$2.99 each but now are $4.99-$9.99 each. I just have way to much stuff piling up so I'm pretty selective with what I buy now. I used to keep an eye out for everything. Whenever I see games I want they're over priced now, it's becoming cheaper to get them at Microplay or at swap meets.

I've found R7s and up in the wild, even other local collectors managed to find great stuff like a white Game Gear off craigslist(the really rare version). I started late with collecting, but there used to be a lot more stuff all the time.

Looks awfully similar to Fairchild Channel F games to me. Perhaps an Asian version?

That's what I thought too, but then I realized it was just their yellow color making me think that. I don't think the PCB on channel F games had that many contacts.

I have an SG-1000 (actually a SC-3000) and I'm vaguely interested in getting one of these.

Also a nice reminder to get a power cord for the SC-3000.

Another vote for this being a Chinese release. Definitely not Japanese.

It's definitely Chinese. I can't read the last 2 characters with my limited Japanese ability, but the name is something like "Ginga Souha", with a vague meaning of "galaxy (battle over) succession".

Too small to be a Chinese version of the Channel F. Fairchild cartridges were about the size of an 8-track tape, whereas those are around the size of an Atari 2600 cart.

Keep in mind that many thrift stores will let you return items. If you're unsure what it is, you could always take it back later for store credit and just tell them you don't have the right system to play it.

That would be insane. Why return something no one knows what it is?

I know the return policy for that store, 7 days exchange only. Heck, even some untestable-at-the-store electronics have tags that say "No exchange". I rarely find anything I want there anymore, so it would be unlikely for me to find something to exchange them for. I really don't like the store that much, some stuff they try to sell is completely worn out. I've thrown out better stuff than they're selling(and I'm a pack-rat, I like to keep everything "useful"). I've been to pawn shops that are cheaper than it.

I really don't get how all the games sell fast for $4.99 each, when I try to sell off my extras on craigslist for $5 each I barely get replies. I remember someone buying a used untested N64 system for $29.99 plus tax, I offered to sell off an extra system of mine for $20 and was told "no thank you".

Sorry for getting off topic a bit, the thrifts kind of bother me now.

Why buy something if you don't know what it is? I'm really curious to find out what these games are for, I'm hoping that somebody actually had carts like these at one point. I tried searching for games with the title that was translated on the last page, no luck so far.

Because if it's video game-related, and the experts on this site don't know it, it's a keeper! Also, you get the thrill of having something you don't know what it's for. Way cool to me. I wouldn't think twice if I saw something in a thrift shop that I didn't hear of. I have been gaming for 30 years, so not too much I won't know in a thrift shop.

Hell, if you don't want them, I'd be happy to buy them from you. :)

Edit: Oops, just found out they aren't your games.
