I think you would need to bring in the military, if he had that piece of hardware.

Peace,

Man... I just love my country! LOL

The funny thing is that the original article (here, in portuguese (http://g1.globo.com/Noticias/Brasil/0,,MUL1013075-5598,00-POLICIA+DIVULGA+IMAGENS+DE+RENDICAO+DE+SEQUESTRADO R+NO+DISTRITO+FEDERAL.html)) never mentions that it's a light gun; in fact, they don't even report it was a fake weapon at all. All they say is that he was "(...)standing on the roof, branding a pistol". Damn journalists!

EDIT:Just showed the article to a friend, and his reply was priceless: "Well, the hostage lady DOES look like a videogame level boss..."

"The Light Phaser, the light gun that shipped with the Sega Master System, must be fairly common in Brazil, considering how incredibly popular the 8-bit console was in the country—it was one of Sega's strongest markets."

This was more or less the issue that first popped into my head when I read this; that the "weapon" wasn't more quickly identified in a Master System stronghold like Brazil?

I can imagine some of the younger municipaises looking through binoculars going "Wait...what?"

Although the SMS was indeed very popular here, gaming in general is not a big part of brazilian culture, since most of our population don't have access to that kind of entertainment in the first place. So, it's unlikely that someone in the inevitable curious crowd around the site would recognize it as a Light Phaser - after all, all this damn kids care about these days is the PS2 LOL. Someone, however, must have noticed it wasn't a real pistol.

That, and journalists here are lazy sons of bitches. Even if someone actually NOTICED it was a bogus gun, he/she wouldn't bother to find out anything particular about it - which is a shame, because it's an interesting fact, IMO. In fact, not even mentioning it was a fake weapon is a crass mistake, to begin with- and, as far as the internet goes (and as far as I read), none of the brazilian news sites reported it.

I'm imagining this guy all decked out in Sega gear. The 3D glasses, two light phasers, a Menacer strapped to his side. All the while flinging Game Gears like batarangs and chucking 32Xs like grenades at the police.

At least people like this guy keep things interesting and it's nice to see SEGA getting some free promotion :)

Better yet, an epic battle between somebody wearing that vs. somebody in AVGN's Nintendo Suit.

For some reason almost all of my teachers and employers look like end level bosses as well. Although the woman probably feels stupid as hell, atleast he didn't use an orange and grey Nes zapper. How could you possibly explain that to your friends and ever hope to be taken serious again?

All kidding aside, there have been several incidents in the US were kids and men would use video game light guns to rob places. After one of them got shoot and killed by the cops(he was a very young boy, probably 14) they decided to stop producing black light guns in the US. Thats why Time Crisis comes with bright ass orange colored guns.....because apparently all the people being robbed(and the cops that shot that kid) never noticed the extension cords on the gun controllers. And yes, they still had them connected.

Never bring a Sega Light Phaser to a Photon fight.

Really? Dammit, , how come we only get the technological advances after years of delay?! I mean, I bet that people have been robbing each other with zappers in the US since the late 80s, while HERE...

If this doesn't convince Sega that they belong in the hardware business I don't know what will.

I think a Hedgehog would of had to been somewhere in that picture. Then they would have considered it.

You remember the light guns on the arcade cab of Lethal Enforcers? They looked exactly like an oversized .357 or .44 and they were painted matte black. Not plastic either- they were a heavy fiberglass. I mean, one of those pistols would have got a kid shot in 0.2 seconds flat.

The sad thing was for awhile there you couldn't find one around here (Lethal Enforcers cab) that wasn't vandalized. Kids were bringing bolt cutters into arcades and chopping the gun loose. I don't recall anyone getting shot over it though- but I do recall the kid getting shot over his BRIGHT ORANGE Nes Zapper with the cord hanging down. How dumb do you think that cop feels now? But as usual, nobody blamed the kid. Nobody blamed the cop. Everyone blamed Nintendo and the entire videogame industry.

Makes me want to strap on a Menacer and climb up a clock tower and start picking off "gremlins".

Lol, funny story! I would have used a Power Glove though, and maybe carry around a U-Force and pretend its a control panel.

This story makes me miss the days people ran around as mercenaries robbing places with nothing more than a Lazer tag phazer and vest on.

I was just about to post a comment about how someone needs to photoshop the dog into that picture. I think the dog needs to be coming out behind the fence/on the side of the guys head.
