oldspewey writes "A new skin disorder caused by use of games consoles has been identified by skin specialists. The condition, dubbed "PlayStation palmar hidradenitis", is described in the British Journal of Dermatology. Researchers outline the case of a 12-year-old girl who attended a Swiss hospital with intensely painful sores on the palms of her hands. The girl, who had been using a games console regularly, recovered fully after 10 days of abstinence. The doctors suspect that the problem was caused by tight and continuous grasping of the console's hand-grips, and repeated pushing of the buttons, alongside sweating caused by the tension of the game. Nina Goad, of the British Association of Dermatologists said: 'This is an interesting discovery and one that the researchers are keen to share ... If you're worried about soreness on your hands when playing a games console, it might be sensible to give your hands a break from time to time, and don't play excessively if your hands are prone to sweating.'" when I was a kid I played so much that I wore all the skin off of my thumb. It turned into a huge blister which eventually developed into no less than 9 yes NINE WARTS on the face of my right thumb, I had them for about 5 years.

I mostly blame the part in Crystalis where you had to fight your trainer by pressing attack as fast as possible til he backed into the wall. Well I tried over and over and over and kept losing, but I would try again just smashing the button as fast as I could with my thumb. Well I didn't find out til later that at this point in the game you weren't meant to win yet so I was wasting my time and my poor thumb. It was bloody and raw after a while, but I kept going!

Maybe I missed something, but it sounds a lot like she just had blisters. Why the fancy name?

Although I grew up on the 2600(it was the first video game system I ever owned) I absolutely hate it. Beyond the non-passable graphics, dinky music and general repeating of levels with most of it's games, the controller was among the worst ever for prolonged play. I was smart enough to take breaks but man was that thing uncomfortable. It wasn't until the Genesis came out(after I had a 2600, 7800 and Nes) that I finally got a comfortable controller. If any controller were to give someone blisters it would be the 2600 "paddle".
