At the moment this is still a rumor but it's an intriguing one none the less. Silent Hill (http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/209014/silent-hill-remake-coming-to-wii/) is probably my favorite horror game and one of my favorite PS1 games. I still remember how freaked out I got playing the Japanese import version to completion. I was pissed that I didn't get the good+ ending but it just gave me another reason to play thru it.

Having said that, I don't think I would really like the motion controls in this game. The original control sceme was clunky enough already. But if they do make this I hope they add a good amount of extras to entice people who have already played thru it(like myself).

I cannot exactly express in words how excited this has made me. @_@
When it does get officially announced, this shall be a first day reserve!

Whoa- I was JUST thinking about this while re-playing Silent Hill on my PS2/40" LCD TV setup.

Looks like crap, even w/ smoothing turned on, so I thought "wow, someone should remake/update this."

This would be awesome. I liked Slient Hill 2 when I played it. I always enjoyed survival horror game, so this would be great.

Well this is a pretty odd decision, hopefully this will spread multi-platform.

I don't want to be 'that guy', but it's being handled by Climax, the guys behind 0rigins, henceforth known as "Professional Silent Hill 2 Fan Fiction". I think a 'wait and see' approach would be best in this instance.

Between the dogshit that were 0rigins and Homecoming, the light gun arcade game, and the various cell phone and iPhone entries, Konami might as well just dress up the Silent Hill franchise in fishnet stockings and put it on the corner. I mean, if you're going to over expose and whore out a franchise, maybe it shouldn't be one that relies on the kind of visceral shock that Silent Hill does. Seeing the world turn brown stops being scary after six or seven entries in a series.

Actually, between Castlevania Judgment, the Silent Hill glory hole, and a new DDR coming out every seven minutes or so, I think it's safe to say that Konami may as well put every franchise that isn't MGS or Contra on that imaginary corner. They haven't treated their franchises so well the last few years.

All, of course, in my opinion.

I am all about a Silent Hill remake. Even if it is only going to be for the PSP and Wii.

Give it a chance first. Take Resident Evil 4 for example. The motion controls IMO worked better than any Wii game before it. It made RE4 into a far superior version than the GC or PS2 versions.

Unfortunately this all started with Silent Hill 4: The Room. That wasn't even suppose to be a Silent Hill game but Komani needed to elevate their quarterly earnings and thus slapped the Silent Hill logo on a sub par game. So I do agree with you that they need to start handling this series better. Perhaps a reinvention is forthcoming.

I have so many fond creepy memories of Silent Hill that I don't want anything to ruin that. But I'll give it a chance via feedback from you guys. Reviews often miss the mark on survivor horror games because nothing can scare/affect everyone in the same way. Thats why I always leave it up to the word of my fellow gamers for a more acurate description of what the gaming experience is like.

Hopefully this turns out to be a good remake. I am nervous to see what will become of it. I agree with G-boobie, and that Homecoming was very disapointing. Hopefully in this game we will be able to see what's going on on screen. I turned up the brightness on my Vizio as much as possible played with in game settings and still felt like things were too dim to be useful. Yes it's creepy that way, but come on.

I'll give it a chance. Origins wasn't really a terrible game, in and of itself, I thought. It just really added absolutely nothing to the overall storyline. Everything of significance in the plot of Origins is already revealed in the other games if you look close enough, it's just a chance to play through some of those events. I don't think it gets anything wrong or messes anything up, but that's partly because it refuses to take risks or add in any real twists to the tale. Gameplay wise it didn't seem significantly worse than any other Silent Hill game, and it did add some freaky new enemies and the ability to throw things like televisions at them.

So it seems like allowing Climax to *remake* a game that already has a set storyline isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Look at it this way. In 2004, the GC RE4 pretty much got 9+ in every mag. Some said it was the best GC game, at least top 5. Easy. Yet RE4 Wii did nothing to ruin those memories. The controls (and widescreen) made it a vastly superior game. Wii controls aren't good for lots of games. RE-type games are the exception. If RE5 had Wii-like controls, and was able to keep the HD graphics, it would be even better.

We're not exactly sure if titling the "reimagining" of a classic game "Shattered Memories" is going to instill much hope in its fans, but that's what Konami is doing with Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for Wii. The not-a-remake of the first game in the series is revealed in the May 2009 issue of Nintendo Power, which contains a 10-page cover feature on the Climax (Silent Hill: Origins) developed game.

Konami has been systematically destroying and/or whoring out every franchise it owns. Silent Hill is no exception.

Since they did such a "great" job on 0rigins, I can't wait to see how Climax manages to inflict one of my favorite games of all time with unnecessary wagglechuck shenanigans.

So yeah. Not much hope here on my end.

Tell me about it. It's the first thing I think of when I hear about an interesting Wii game...how are the stupid, tacked-on Wiimote functions going to f' up the game?

It's more so the fault of failed implementation than faulty technology. In this case, I fear the sooner much more than the later. When Wiimote controls are done right it's pure sweetness, but when it goes bad it goes all out.

Huh, no combat? Is this true?

http://gonintendo.com/?p=77624

So, what do you think of this? Sure, the combat in the Silent Hill games wasn't the greatest, but there were reasons for it. Without it it sounds more like Clock Tower or Haunting Ground. I hope it's not replaced with a bunch of what amount to quicktime events.

It's being produced by the guy who oversaw Contra 4. There is a very good chance this will rock (and not be a wii-mote gimmicky half-assed effort).

Oh yeah, just like they did with Resident Evil 4!

Could be cool, they are probably going to implement some stupid wii mote controls. However, if they use the wiimote in a cool way (aka Metroid prime 3) then it could be badass! Im moderate, kinda excited, but dreading it too. Multiplatform? :D

You guys don't sound very hopeful, lol. I don't blame yall though. Silent Hill is my favorite survivor horror series and I hate seeing it get shady games. But you never know, maybe they can pull this one off. *crosses fingers*

There's a huge difference here, even if you consider the fact that Silent Hill and RE4 are nothing at all alike outside of crazy monsters. First off, RE4 on Wii (which I consider to be the definitive version) was handled by people who understood how to best use the Wii motion controls to perform a function that was already in the two original versions: in this case, aiming your weapon and a few QTE's. There's a direct control parallel between the two inputs, that being that the Wiimote simply takes the place of your analog stick when you're capping Las Plagas. Silent Hill had nothing like that at all. It's not a shooter disguised as a survival horror game. It's straight up third person survival horror action, pre- RE4.

Consider also that the last couple Silent Hill efforts by US contractors have been disappointing to say the least. Let's also not forget Castlevania Judgment, the last time Konami treated us to a fan-favorite-franchise Wii incarnation. Utter garbage.

Here's hoping. I'm going to let someone else take the bullet first, though.

Also: no combat? Is this Silent Hill or Haunting Ground?

According to IGN (http://wii.ign.com/articles/969/969864p1.html) the game will be titled Shattered Memories, will be a "reimaging" of the original and will be available on PS2 and PSP as well as the Wii.

Now I'm all down for anything Silent Hill, but I would have much preferred a nextgen remake of the game if anything.

Thats what I'll probably end up doing as well because I play very few games on my Wii. I still need the PS2 version of Silent Hill Origins as well.

this will suck...

I was a huge fan of the orginal... hell they even filmed the movie in my city...

it was new and different at the time, but is there not an orginal idea left anywhere these days?

remake FF7 only because I dread playing it again on the ps1 I need newer graphics...

You are 100% correct and this is why I haven't snagged it yet. Why is this game still priced at $30 new? I got the impression that half the people liked it and half the people hated it.
