I'm almost tempted to import the LE, and swap out for a US game when/if the US version comes out.

Obviously nobody in this thread felt the burn of Jade Cocoon.
I'm cautiously optimistic?

Sure...Jade Cocoon was ass. But that doesn't matter cause Crave isn't Level 5.
Crave - Shadow Madness, Jade Cocoon, Future Tactics, Butt Ugly Matians, eJay Clubworld, The Bible Game....
Level 5 - Dark Cloud 2, Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy Jeanne De Arc, Professor Layton and the Curious Village...
That's right folks....coming around the bend...and it's LEVEL 5 FOR THE WIN!

I actually liked Shadow Madness. :P
But yeah Level 5 develops fantastic games.

Crave didn't develop Jade Cocoon. Genki did.
Level 5's track record, while better than Genki's, is hardly spotless. Professor Layton is decent and Jeanne D'Arc isn't bad, but Rogue Galaxy is a waste of potential and the original Dark Cloud is mediocre. Level 5's games really depend a lot on the company they're developing for, which is why this Ghibli collaboration is a little odd. Ghibli's not known for video games.
Also, Jade Cocoon had nothing to do with Ghibli as a whole. Genki just had artist Katsuya Kondo design the characters. Kondo's worked on a bunch of Ghibli movies, and his style reflects that.

Really? You're going to shit on their first game? Level 5 has come a long way since. It also sounds like you're being unnecessarily negative. Professor Layton only decent? I think you're the first person I've met that didn't love the game. As far as I'm concerned Level 5 is one of the best RPG developers of this past generation.
And while Ghibli may not be known as game makers, they are certainly legendary as story tellers. Priority one for any great RPG. I expect this game to be a lot better than say anything put together by... I dunno; Square and Disney? Now there's a couple of recently mediocre track records.

Why? Rogue Galaxy is both recent and mostly unimpressive, and even if you like Dragon Quest VIII (I didn't), much of that game was fashioned by Enix and Yuji Horii's influence. Professor Layton suggests that Level 5 is better at making puzzle-adventure games than RPGs.
And while Ghibli may not be known as game makers, they are certainly legendary as story tellers. Priority one for any great RPG.
Ghibli's capable of telling a mediocre story when its major talents aren't involved (Tales of Earthsea, for example). In fact, do we even know who's writing the story for this game? Is it Ghibli or Level 5?

So Ni no Kuni could be better than the last Kingdom Hearts? That's not saying much.

Given your opinions on both companies involved I think it's just safe to assume that this release is not your cup of tea. My enthusiasm remains undeterred.

Wow KF.....seems like every time I mention stuff I like or feel strongly about, you have a serious opposite opinion. I found Rogue Galaxy highly entertaining...thought the pacing could use some work. Other than being a bit of a grindfest, it's good IMO. And Layton....pure genius. Simple as that.
I didn't mention the first Dark Cloud cause I found it at best mediocre too...but the second one is GOOD.
@ Daria....Shadow Madness...while not atrocious....wasn't exactly the greatest. And considering that that's probably Crave's BEST game... :P
I still want this title too....naysayers be damned.

It was an ass-ugly Final Fantasy clone. But it had great dialogue.

Here's some more news about Ni no Kuni. At the end, they mention that the game's coming to the DS and one other console.
