View Full Version : Why is the Atari and Sears 4 switcher listed as rarer than the 6 switcher?

I just noticed something that seems to be a pretty big error on the system rarities on this database. The Atari 2600 and the Sears 6 switcher is listed as a rarity 2, and the Atari 4 switcher and Sears 4 switcher are listed as a rarity 3. The six switcher was made in 1977, 1978, and 1979. And the 4 switcher was made in 1980 on up. Before Space Invaders came along in 1980 the Atari 2600 was popular but not extremely popular. Once this game hit the markets it's a known fact that Atari started selling these systems in much larger quantities. There is no way that the 4 switcher should be listed as rarer than the six switcher. If anything the six switcher should be the rarity 3 and the 4 switcher should be the rarity 2. Just take a look on ebay anyday of the week and it becomes extremely obvious that the 4 switcher is much much more common.

there's almost no difference between a 2 and a 3, that is probably going on production numbers alone

The 4 switch SEARS is very hard to find. I cant seem to ever find one loose much less a boxed one. I have way more 4 switch reg Atari 2600 systems and many 6 switch sears units

You probably are right about that, but the Atari 4 switch is still more common than the Atari 6 switch. And yes I know that there is not much difference between a 2 and a 3, it's just that looks strange that an Atari 4 switcher would be listed as rarer than a 6 switcher. It's not true, plain and simple.

Well try not to forget that, lest you come back to the guide and are misled.

Well, my guess is the guide probably won't be changed. Looks like my attempt has been wasted. Almost anything can be considered trivial if you put the right slant on it.

it was worth a shot and the trivial statement is very true
