Considering these aren't licensed products, I'd say it would be worth open because then you could actually assert whether or not the thing actually works. ;)
eBay takes these suckers down all the time, so it's tough to gauge a price for it, but you should be able to get $20 or so from the right person from it. Even a 2 day listing might work.

I remember Vintage Stock's booth at the Oklahoma Game Expo years back had a new ST-Key for $15, or one for $20 with four Japanese games bundled with it. That's the one I bought. :D
